don't understand all this hatred against Trump. There is nothing he has done, over the past 10 months of his term, that has affected the quality of my life (or anyone else with whom I associate).

I can't speak for you, but it has affected my life. He has surrounded himself with far right evangelical Christians who don't have my best interests in mind, or those of anyone else who isn't a far right evangelical Christian, some of whom actually believe the Constitution only protects Christianity.

Some do, some don't. I don't believe the very conservative evangelicals do.

During the election of 2016, the person who had my best interests was a Jew.

I wished I could vote for him, but I was too young to vote at the time.. :(

But the constitution does not only protect Christianity. Every citizen in this country has an independent right to practice any belief, religious or otherwise. How exactly has your life been affected in the past 10 months? I am very interested in receiving a rational explanation to that!

Please read my comments to Tombstone1881. While the Constitution does protect all religious beliefs, there are people like Roy Moore (likely to be the next senator from Alabama) and radio host Bryan Fischer who believe it only protects Christianity, and therefore would want to pass laws that restrict the religious freedoms of non Christians such as myself.

...and these supposedly far right evangelical Christians that Trump has surrounded himself with, what have *they* done in the last 10 months, or are planning to do in the next 10?

Honestly curious...

For one, they try to push these "religious freedom" bills and executive orders that are nothing more than legalizing discrimination protection in the guise of religious liberty

So your chief concern is any legislation that legally permits an individual to choose not to be involved in something that runs contrary to their own values? Or that protects a person's right not to have another person's moral code forced onto them?

Just so I understand where you're coming from...

I believe that private businesses should be allowed to turn away customers for any reason. My chief concern is that some people want that concept expanded to government employees, allowing them to refuse to people things to which they are legally entitled, such as marriage licenses, etc. It opens a whole can of worms. I don't believe government employees should be allowed to deny things like marriage licenses to couples who are legally allowed to obtain them.

To put it another way, I have a problem with people taking something as sacred and cherished as the freedom of religion we have as United States citizens and using it as a Trojan horse to shuttle in their discriminatory and unethical policies, and as a shield to protect them from any criticism when they do so.

"...allowing them to refuse to people things to which they are legally entitled, such as marriage licenses, etc..."

That ship has sailed. The SCOTUS made it's ruling and it's over, DOMA is dead and buried. That pendulum isn't going to start swinging back the other way anytime soon. And to extend that metaphor, the best that those of us on the right can hope for at this point, is too keep it from swinging too far, or we'll have marriage licenses for Man and Irish Setter, or worse. Some people are already talking about defining the "rights" of AIs, and SkyNet isn't even self-aware yet.

Take heart, because your concerns really are unfounded.

Kim Davis refused to sign marriage licenses, and Roy Moore told his probate judges not to issue them to same sex couples, and this was *after* Obergefell. Something as trivial and meaningless (yes, sarcasm) as a Supreme Court decision isn't going to stop people who are determined enough to put their discriminatory beliefs into practice.

Kim Davis was tossed in jail for Contempt of Court, and Roy Moore's order was struck down AND he was suspended from his post as Chief Justice as a result of that order.

We are a nation of laws whether they like it or not (and whether you believe it or not), and same-sex marriage is now the law. Anyone who violates the law should be (and have been) punished accordingly.

So again, not really seeing anything worth wringing your hands in worry about.

I agree that they were punished, but I was simply pointing out that they willfully and deliberately defied the law because they felt their religious beliefs gave them the right to do so. And if it happened before, it will likely happen again.

"...they willfully and deliberately defied the law..."
"...they were punished..."

I'm still not seeing where there's a worrisome problem. The system works if you just let it work. People defy the law, and then they are punished (unless your name is Clinton, of course). My advice is to relax, and stop worrying about problems that aren't really problems. Just my $0.02

In fairness, I think Paltrow voted for Trump. She said it was 'an exciting time to be an American' with loads of new business opportunities, and refused to answer the question of whom she had picked as her candidate. So, in Hollywood terms, she's in the basket of deplorables and worse than Hitler. Great meme, gets an up-vote, but it's just the wrong silly actress in the snap. Not that I'm bitter because my Streep-Weinstein meme was rejected twice by the Academy running this site. :-( My Paltrow one went through, though. Reckon Meryl is on the moderation team.
