I always play black in chess because it has the advantage of seeing what the other guy is doing before I make my first move.

But then you give up the tempo advantage, so it kinda brakes even.

Depends on your style.

When does yielding the initiative ever give you an advantage that cannot be otherwise obtained?

Chess is weird. I usually play better as black. It's just how things work, I suppose.

My brother's friend was playing chess with him, and he was playing as white. I said I always go for white in chess to keep things simple and my brother's friend called me racist.
