It is not about being right or wrong but that the outcome doesn't matter one way or the other. It just part of being at peace. :)

Third World Skeptical Kid Meme | BUT IS IT REALLY A GOOD THING IF WHAT BRINGS YOU PEACE ISN'T TRUE? | image tagged in memes, third world skeptical kid | made w/ Imgflip meme maker

That is wholly impossible as only the Truth can bring ever lasting peace. Truth and peace can not be separated from each other.

Sure they can. Something false can bring someone peace. If you say that truth and peace are totally inseparable, then you would have to say that since there are people of every single religion who have peace, that means every single religion is true.

If it is the false that brings peace, then that peace will not last. Only the Truth can provide ever lasting peace. If you're at peace regardless of worldly outcomes then your peace is coming from the the Truth. If you're peaceful only because you're certain that things will go a certain way then that is false peace. The certainty referred to in the meme above is independent of worldly outcomes which is why it can not be separated from the Truth.

You're right that there are plenty of people in other religions who find peace however that doesn't mean any of the religions themselves are true, what it means is that they all can lead to the one Truth. Christianity is just one of many paths that can lead to that one Truth.

let's phrase that a different way. will something that's true, give people this "peace" you keep mentioning? just because it's true?

Truth and peace can not be separated from each other. That is exactly what I've been saying in this whole conversation, try reading it again from the start. :)

yes, but what if the truth is something that offers more questions than answers? if i got diagnosed with cancer, it would be the truth, but it sure wouldn't offer peace.

The Truth referred to above is the Truth of God, this Truth is not of this world and therefore forever true. The Truth of God when properly accepted answers all questions. It will never raise any further questions. If it raises any questions at all it is either not the Truth of God or you're just unable to accept it at that point in time.

The truth that you're referring to is the truths of the world. These can never bring peace because they're not forever true. They are only true for a time being before being invalidated. In your example, being diagnosed with cancer is certainly frightful because that is a truth of the world and not the Truth of God.

Distinguishing between the so called truths of the world and the Truth of God is fundamental in any spiritual pursuits. The truths of the world are concerned with worldly and bodily matters. The Truth of God is that there is no world, no body, and that you're pure spirit.

Do what you can to be at peace, be it finding god, meditating, both, something else entirely...

The Pope told the atheist that "without god you are like a blind man in a dark room looking for a black cat which isn't there." The atheist responded that "with God you are like a blind man in a dark room looking for a black cat which isn't there. The only difference is that you found it."

something that annoys me about this is that this is religious, however i don't think it to be a meme. sure, it uses the website and the format, but it's not funny. it's just promoting religion. and then people upvote and comment on it because they're religious too and don't want to appear to not be servicing their religion. but the problem is that if you truly want to spread god's word... this might not be the most effective platform. if you're not going to introduce humor into the mix, then why make it a meme at all?

Despite what you might think there is an audience for non-funny memes on this site. Lots of memes about politics and current affairs make it to the front page and generate lots of discussion yet are hardly funny at all.

yes, but those memes make a joke out of it. they don't make it to the front page because they're political, but because they use that as a material for a joke. as well, i am not saying this should not exist, but maybe a site like imgflip is not the place people will seek enlightenment.

I agree. I find many concepts in the Bible disprove God being all-accepting. I've had a similar argument with livingwater about this. Even if you're a good person you STILL get eternal damnation if you don't believe in God? No thank you.

Nihilist
reply

God is indeed all accepting. Any and all contradictions to that is simply wrong.

God does not condemn anyone at all. It is us that condemn ourselves by rejecting Him. Hell is nothing but distance from God. We can close that distance by accepting his Love. The choice is always ours.

during the time that christianity was gaining popularity as a religion, communication was fairly limited. it is very likely that many people did not even hear about christianity, so they would never be a believer. so then, would they go to hell for that?
reply

As I said to Octavia_Melody above, Christianity is just one of many paths to God. Just because you're not Christian it doesn't mean that you're automatically wrong and condemned.

There are plenty of errors and inconsistencies in the bible. What can be truly trusted are the passages that can be attributed directly to Jesus. Everything else must be critically evaluated in this light. Anything that contradicts what Jesus said is either wrong or misleading.
