English isn't weird, it just requires knowledge of Greek, Latin/ French and German to understand the spelling that makes perfect sense then. But English speaking people nowadays a much too lazy to learn foreign languages. They prefer to struggle with spelling their own language for their whole life.

What you say is perfectly true, but it's that very mix that makes the vocabulary so large. And that's what makes English so much fun
