What's the old saying vote early vote often. I saw this great report on BBC World Service. The Irish Govt was in some kind of crisis & the English anchor woman was being terribly serious about it all. Then she asked an Irish reporter about the reaction in Dublin. He opened with "Well of course we Irish think politics is the greatest spectator sport ever invented"

As to the "Popular" vote. When Western Australia dumped "Rural Weightage" for a one vote one value system they expected that the big losers would be the rural based National Party. The actually gained a seat. Still in Australia the Commonwealth changed the rules in the senate to reduce the number of minor party senators, dissolved parliament & called fresh elections. Result: more minor party & independent senators than any prior time in Australian history. Love that!

Yeah I get that. What I don't get is why politicians knowing how emotional thing are right now are targeting symbols, given that those symbols are the very thing that can spark the kind of explosion we saw @ Charlotsville, irrespective of who's in the majority or minority or whatever.
