This is "stolen" or "Reposted" meme I can approve of, mostly because it's true an because you didn't claim it was your original as Top Users do when they "borrow" or "Share" memes.

It gets really tiring to see your name - yet again - attached to a comment complaining about other users. And here you're making what I think is a false accusation.

If you can cite even one example of a well-known user on imgflip claiming a meme as their own when they repost it, I'd be very, very surprised.

I think you're full of shit. But by all means, post a link to even a single instance of that happening on the site, and I'll admit I'm wrong.

It's there. I don't have to find it for you. I don't want to waste the time proving I'm right because, well, I'm right. You can't disprove it. But if you want to take the time, if imgflip is THAT important to you and is your life, you can go back through Raydogs memes. There was one he claimed as his own, was taking congratulations on it, until I outed him and linked to the original at which point his whole attitude changed and he later in the comment thread admitted to someone else it was not his. In other comment threads many Top users have admitted to having alt accounts. So you can call BS if you want to try to keep others hoodwinked but you know I'm right and that what I say is true.

Logic dictates the one that makes the claim has the burden of backing said claim with proof, especially when challenged. The fact you refuse to meet your burden of proof allows for the application of Hitchen's Razor: Claims that are not backed with proof can be dismissed without proof. Therefore, your claim is bullshit until you prove otherwise.

Imgflip is not such a part of my life that I need to prove anything to redeem myself. I don't give a rat's ass what people think about me. The proof is there I'll point you to it. I'm just not going to waste my time quoting it all ver batim because just like Christians you will deny the evidence when it right in front of your face anyway so why should I put in the effort. If you seek the truth you should be willing to work for it, not have someone hand it to you and even if I did hand it to you how would you know I was telling the truth without verifying it? Go look at the thread on Raydog's AlienBarbie stolen meme. He was taking all kinds of kudos for it and basking in the glory until I linked to the original meme. Then he changed his story...twice. Then Spurs jumped on me, only to admit later that 70% of the memes HE posts are not his. So I call your bullshit and raise you with facts. 4 of the top users have admitted in comments to me that they routinely take memes from others and post them. YOU can go find them all if you like, I have no desire to read the admissions again.

That sure was a lengthy reply for someone that doesn't put a lot into imgflip. And unlike your assumption I can have my mind changed with evidence. But you still failed to fulfill your obligation according to the rules of logic, you can try to explain it away but it just exposes you.

I've been through Raydog's memes several times (for example, when I'm upvoting him if he's near a milestone). I've never once seen anything like what you're describing. I'm not sure why you think I should just take your word for it.

However, now that you've made your claim more specific, it will be easier for me to check it, which I'll try to remember to do, next time I'm going through Raydog's memes to upvote them. If it turns out that I find out I'm wrong, I'll come back to you and let you know.

Alt accounts is another issue. My calling you out on your bullshit was on your claim that 'Top Users claim that memes they repost are their original memes.'

Maybe try talking a little less shit if you're not willing to back it up? Honesty is a better life.

Many of them have been kind and supportive, so I don't wanna slag on them, but yeah, I've always been uncomfortable with the notion of stealing or reposting. If folks at least stated that that was the case and did it on occasion, cool. But to treat this as a game where any means to get to the top is warranted, they're kind of missing the point. Memeing is about creating, not cheating.

In the meantime, those striving for originality might give up as they go under the radar while already tested memes are stolen and then praised as genius,,,

Well said. That's been my feeling as well since I joined. It is supposed to be about creating memes and sharing them but the point w**res have made it all about popularity. I wouldn't really care as much because I'm not in it for the points. My issue is that by stealing memes and upvoting and commenting on them to keep your "status" discourages those that have some good memes. I get chastised and berated by top users saying I'm just bitter and jealous because my memes don't get attention. No, it's not about me. I'd really like to see more of others original memes make the front page but they can't because of the imgflip cabal. Post your own creations and see how they rank and if you do "borrow" or "share" a meme because it is unique then at least admit it is not yours and you are sharing it because it is funny or relevant . Not because you are so insecure that have to be popular at any cost.

I agree with you that it would be good to see more unheard-of users on the front page (it already happens regularly, but it would be good to see more of it).

I think you're making some assumptions about motives of well-known users that aren't actually the case (e.g. that it's all about popularity and points for them).

I've commented a few times on memes calling for the ridding of downvotes that ALL votes should be eliminated. Funny, the chorus turns against the idea of no upvotes, even funnier when most of them turn out to be parents or even grandparents. I didn't go for the popularity in crowd game when I WAS in school. What do I need it now for?

Naturally in a system geared towards such, competition for them ensues, shortcuts are taken, alts are used for a boost, etc,,, I saw a good meme once get only 2 upvotes, yet a simple, "lol" comment on it - no meme, just "lol" - from a top user had 4 upvotes!!!

Some newer users then try to latch onto top users for name recognition and a boost to their own points. So this mindset won't change unless the system here does. For those who need their precious little points, perhaps accumulating them via activity on their memes. Won't altogether alter the climate, but it will at least make it more reasonable and realistic, not based on this silly clique mentality,,,

You and I see it pretty much the same. See above comment from Socrates. He tries to defend it and say it ain't so yet it is and he has previously admitted it to me in conversation, as has Raydog and a few others. It's all about points for them and they have admitted to stealing memes, having alt accounts, voting each other up, etc...then they come on a thread like this and say they don't do it ! LOL. imgflip is like the DNC. When you expose the truth they go after the whistleblower.

But my experience with Socrates has been positive. Like I said ealier, most have been helpful and supportive. I don't know much about a lot of stuff they say because I tend to look more towards Latest rather than the Front Page & Hot. I've commented on a few of his in recent weeks, catching them fresh out the door when as they just got featured (which is often when I'm still up).

Even eliminating votes as I suggested would have limits in impact since memers will still congregate around the better known members.

I tend towards funner memes, the politcal ones getting too ugly sometimes. And there's a few personal faves that I have which I usually go to,,,

Like 123Guy. He pointed out stolen memes, but then he went off the deep end with that and then started with personal attacks on others for no reason. I hadn't seen how bad he was getting till the end, having not been around that all that much.

Then you get alleged right & left wing, etc, trolls which aren't trolls to those who like them.

Tetsuoswrath made a big fuss about a particular group of what he called trolls and alts, trying to recruit others to assist him in his mission, but then he started doing what he claimed they were doing, downvote crippling another memer simply because she didn't help him. He got really insistent with me too, to the point I had to avoid him altogether.

So I just try to avoid memes that will spiral into flame wars (although AnotherWorldView/1RedShoe has suddenly been pestering me again for the first time in months. He's gonna come here to kill me soon still. Just not yet today *yawn*).
And I figure many, including relative unknowns, steal/repost, and nothing will change that. So I usually leave it be. It's still gonna happen with whomever regardless,,,

Yeah, I was glad to see 123Guy point out the same stuff I was pointing out but he had a thin skin. When the cabal teamed up on him he lost it and went for the insults and attacks. I don't attack anybody I just point out the truth. The Tops all try to defend themselves saying "Where does so-and-so take credit for the meme?" Well they don't post "THIS IS MY MEME". They just post without acknowledging the OP or source so they are claiming it by default. I have used several others memes on my other social networks but EVERYTIME I have stated "Not mine. Credit goes to imgflip user ________" and I put their name.

Swiggy got in an argument with me last night on another one about the same thing (check our recent comments). Me & him discussed this a couple of times last year. The guy is a grandfather, yet has a hissy fit claiming now even the mods are picking on him for busting him on posting straight up stolen memes.
