Back when printers were still expensive, I needed a replacement part for my Canon printer. I spent 2 hours on the phone, getting shuffled from point A to point B back to point A to point C. FINALLY got the parts department. The kid on the other end of the line tried to get me to upgrade to a new printer, which cost $50 more than my old printer. No, I just want the part. My manual said it was something like $35 dollars. He said the price had gone up to $150 in the year since I bought it. Okay. starts in on trying to get me to upgrade to a new printer again. Finally, after all that time I was on the line, I forcefully told him that I wanted the part. Mind you, I've been on the line with him for about 20 minutes and he just kept going back to selling me an upgrade. I said, Look, just send me the damn part. He said he couldn't because it was out of stock. Something he could have told me upfront. So now, if I'm in a store, I always point the customers to other brands, even if they cost more just from that tech support aspect.
epilogue: 6 months later, I helped my sister get her computer working (had to reload the OS) and she asked me about getting a printer. I told her avoid Canon printers. Two weeks later She calls and says she can't get her brand new printer to work. I asked her what type of printer it was, and she hemmed and hawed and finally admitted it was a Canon. I told her she was going to need to call Canon tech support about that, I wouldn't help her because she didn't listen to me. She said she'd already tried them and they were worthless. Please help. Sorry.
