I read the kids apology. Kind of advanced for a 15 yo kid trolling the internet, but right in line with CNN lawyers.

I don't even care how old the guy is, no one should be threatened like that by anyone, let alone a huge corporation like CNN. They overstepped their bounds and did something that was illegal.

I'm not really sure how it is in Canada and what the exact laws are regarding something like this, but her in the States it is illegal.CNN's rating are so bad right now and they go and pull a stunt like this and removed all credibility that they were clinging to.

What exactly did they say to threaten him? I never heard that part of the story. (I'm not saying they didn't threaten him, btw)

They spent extra money and time to find out who made the video and apparently it took only a few hours. Then they put out a statement that said the creator's apology was accepted and to let this be a warning to anyone else who decides to mess with them that they'd expose them. They told this kid or whoever it really was, that if he went back innhis apology, they'd release all his personal info and make sure he lost his job and etc.

Source? Yeah, go to ccn.com. Unless they took it down. They probably did. But you can just google it and I'm sure someone screen shot it.

What was the threat, exactly?

I won't go into it, since I already have, but basically they blackmailed the creator of the original gif, saying if he made another, they'd release all his personal info and make sure he lost his job.

Okay. I went and found the article on the incident. http://www.cnn.com/2017/07/04/politics/kfile-reddit-user-trump-tweet/index.html

I saw no threat in there, nor in the apology from Hanassholesolo. It did point out that HAS had requested that his identity remain anonymous, which CNN agreed to. After all, besides being a private citizen, it would make them an accessory to hate crimes should his name and location be published. As I understand it, he built himself a bunch of haters because of comments he made that were racist or anti-sematic, so that's not surprising.

Yup. I read that. Still, why didn't they post his if all he did was make a GIF that somebody added a soundtrack? I mean, hell, it was funny. he shouldn't be embarrassed by that.

True. He had every right to make the GIF. I wouldn't have apologized for it. His usage was protected by the first amendment. Had I made it, I would be soaking in the limelight. I haven't had a 15 minutes of fame in a few decades. I can't figure out why or how, they would black mail him unless he worked for a liberal business, like an Abortion clinic or Hillary In 2020 campaign.

They'e seriously asking for trouble. Even if you take the kid's apology at face value a petty Goliath (relative to the kid) is not a sympathetic figure.

If the Russia story is all a hoax then why did Trump fire his Director of National Intelligence, if not for collusion with Russia? And why did Congress appoint a special counsel to investigate Trump associates' possible collusion with Russia? And why did Trump himself say he believes Russia interfered with the US election?

There's a big difference between doing investigative journalism to find newsworthy information for the public, and investigating someone's private information to silence satire about you.

CNN and the democratic party are dead in the water. This is what happens when ppl sit in their little Obama worshipping echo chambers and have had so many vaccines that they have convinced themselves they are still winning when it couldnt be more untrue.

The communities are still like families, in a way. They're not quite as close and welcoming as ImgFlip, but they defend their own. Not to mention a lot of liberal media sources have gotten on their bad side lately, especially with the Buzzfeed normie influx. So they're not crazy, just a little less...organized.

Okay, but it isn't against the law to be racist. Racism is a personal opinion. CNN did something illegal and should be investigated.

Most of them actually hate Trump. The meme war was caused by CNN's doxxing of a 15-year-old Redditor that did nothing but edit the CNN logo into a gif. It has nothing to do with Trump or race whatsoever.

Except Hans said a bunch of racist shit . So attacking on his behalf is supporting his racist comments

So are you suggesting that making edgy memes should be punishable by release of personal information and a potential lawsuit? People are angry because CNN is breaking the law by targeting an innocent kid and GETTING AWAY WITH IT!
reply

If your not willing to stand behind your racist comments don't write them. None of these people would say this shit in public. I'm not mad someone is being held accountable for their hate speech.
reply
1 up, 1 reply
It may be hate speech, but you're missing the point of this entirely. I don't support his racist remarks, but the fact that a private corporation is punishing a minor by illegal means for something that is protected under the Constitution itself is outrageous. Surely you must be able to put the social stability of our nation above your feelings toward a person you don't even know.

Ok, so should third-wave "feminists" have their rights stripped away for being openly sexist? No, because they're still American citizens, and are protected under the law just like you and I. It's also not fair of you to tell the world that I don't have passion for the more pressing matters, because I actually do. It just so happens that this thread is focused on one issue and doesn't have any relation to other current events.
reply

So you get to decide what's real feminism and what's third wave who decides when their cause matters , you? As far as the downvote you don't have to downvote me you could simply not vote but I think you get a kick off of downvotin going so people can't respond or do meme comment

They do not have the rights of men because of sexism that's the whole point. Anyone using hate speech deserves to face their own words in public. Also Hans degrading other races with hate speech is not comparable to women fighting to be treated equal.
1 up
You're right, womens' equality is a cause worth fighting for. That's why I specifically said third-wave, which is actually very hateful and trying to instate women as the superior sex. I'd also like to clarify that I downvote in arguments to keep it more private because the thread is typically hidden. I personally prefer one-on-one debates over an all-out war.
