Just so everyone knows, I UPVOTE EVERYONES comments. I've noticed a lot at zero this morning so someone is downvoting. :(

I guess things change the higher you move up the ladder? I even upvoted the negative comments this weekend for pete and repeats sakes! (pun intended!)

Maybe a bug. I know I've seen mine take a while to register before. They'll show the arrow, but the count doesn't go up for multiple minutes.

I wonder if there's a bug causing upvotes to show up as downvotes. I use a Mac, and I upvote the ones I like but just ignore the ones I don't like rather than downvote them. I hope that my upvotes count as such, because a fellow memer who is in the top 100 (around the 50th) has been downvoted so badly that (s)he can no longer meme on the comment board .. not sure if (s)he can still upload a meme to the main board, either -- and (s)he's a really good memer :-( is thinking about shutting down his/her account now :-(

Sounds like they got into an (political?) argument. Those often lead to downvoting by the other person/ideology. Your upvotes should count, sometimes it seems they just don't register immediately, especially on recently featured memes.

Figured out who your friend is. I think it'd be a shame for them to go too. Not sure if they're involved in a downvote war, collateral damage, or what. If it's gotten that bad, and they are part of a certain group, it may be good to just leave that behind if it's making the site less enjoyable for them. They can always PM me too.

I'll use the term "he" for simplicity .. I didn't want to name him because of what was going on, but looking at the memes, it's rare that he gets political, and if on the rare occasion he does, he remains neutral because because he, like myself, doesn''t like politicians in general. His humour can be irreverent at times, but mine is pretty irreverent, too .. but he seems careful not to offend. Some people take offense at the stupidest things, though, and I'm sure I've offended at least one or two .. but I'm fairly new still, and he's in the top 100, as mentioned. I didn't want to mention the name, would it be safe to mention it here?

Probably best not to name him here. But I'd make a few more comments so it's not easy to figure out.

OK, glad I asked first .. thanks .. checking out his comments, he doesn't seem to have any disputes with anyone, either .. I think (s)he's the type of person that would just rather walk away from a stupid argument than get embroiled in one ..

This is so true. I've discussed this same thing with other flippers. It's discouraging. Down vote all the down votes.

It's only semi-private. It's a URL trick and anyone can pick the same meme comment to try to reply to. Yes, anyone being assailed with downvotes can be countered with upvotes.

I used to have a problem getting downvoted into purgatory. Originally due to political things, but the person just wanted to be a buttwipe and persist. I just filed a feedback form every time be did it, and an hour or two later, I was back up and running. Since ya can't punch cyberbullies in the nose, the best you can do is call the gendarmes and have them take care of it.

As for being able to submit memes, imgflip will cut you back to two submissions a day. I think that may be how all the alts came about. People setting them up to fight cyberbullying used the same method as the cyberbullies.

I've occasionally seen that too. Imgflip uses Amazon AWS, upvotes should appear in the count almost instantly, and is almost always the case. If there is a delay, usually a F5 shows them, once or twice I've had to come back to the page after a few minutes to see the count change.

Yeah that's kind of what I meant. If someone comments on my meme, I almost always try to comment back or at least acknowledge it with an upvote.
