Futurama Fry Meme | YOU MIGHT HAVE SOMETHING THERE | image tagged in memes, futurama fry | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
I once had a very educated body who was as southern as it gets. He told me he has a hard time getting people to respect him and take him seriously because of his country accent.

Actually, you have something there. Anyone from the Southern States that gets into broadcast journalism ends up taking a course in how to speak Midwestern. Likewise, other parts of the country where accents are prevalent. Southerners, though, have that stigma of being uneducated because most of the country that's dealt with natives of the south have dealt with the less intelligent members. They're mostly laid back in their speech patterns.

With the black population, I wonder if it has something to do with their hearing. Have you ever noticed how loud many are in normal speech. I have some neighbors over me that are very loud. In their 50s, but when they talk, I can hear them a mile away. But, like southerners, they grow up speaking the language they hear at home.

I don't think it has anything to do with their hearing. I have black friends that switch between English and ebonics like a linguist would switch between Russian and Tagalog.

Listen closely. My grandson has a speech impediment because of his epilepsy, but his words are clearer than other blacks in the area. His younger brothers have no problem with the English language. The oldest's father was 3/4 black, 1/4 NA. His younger brothers father was half and half. The thing is, their dads left their lives early. They grew up raised white, which includes their speech patterns. Having me as a part of their lives sealed it. I see some mixed kids that speak total ghetto because that's how they were raised.

As for hearing, most that I speak with have inside voices louder than my outside voice.

From my experience, it seems like more of a deeply-ingrained cultural thing. I've noticed that black British and English-speaking native Africans don't really seem to have this problem, at least not as much as far as I've seen.

Speaking from the point of view of a white guy, I've noticed that a lot of black [American] men seem to feel the need to prove that they're more masculine and tough than white men, and many black women act rather masculine.

The macho thing isn't restricted to one group of people. In the White communities they're just called bullies. Male and female

No, no, I'm not implying that they're mean or bullies; I mean that a lot of black men don't want to be seen as "too white". I'm suggesting that this cultural dynamic could be the origin of why many blacks tend to be loud.

That's a possibility. I'm neither a psychologist nor anthropologist. Just casual observations.
