IF HE DOESN'T USE LUBE THEN THEY'RE ALL THOR! | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
Forgive me, my reply is as bad as your original meme...but if you can't be tasteless on IMGFLIP, then where can you be tasteless?

I've noticed that you're putting time stamps on your memes, are you having trouble getting your memes featured or are you trying to defeat reposters?

PEOPLE WHO REPOST MY MEMES YOU DA REAL MVP | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
Thanks. I was just curious if submitting at different times of the hour had any effect on positioning and feature times, with the new feature times on the quarter-hour.

I would never try to defeat reposters. I support reposts passionately. I love it when people repost my memes. It doesn't happen often enough. If memes don't get reposted, they're just captioned pictures on the internet that got forgotten.

:D

Got it, thanks.

On the topic of hourly vs every 15 minutes, I preferred the hourly features better. I'd rather check out latest memes than the hot ones, and when they were featured every hour I could dive in more thoroughly without losing my place.

Yesterday I waited 5 hours for one of my memes to be featured. Do you have a suggestion as to why it took so long? I'm still pretty new in here, but it would be nice to figure this out soon :)

There's basically 2 kinds of memes you can make on the site.

1. Memes with established, known templates (ie, templates that are on the popular templates tab, or memes that come up when you search imgflip that already have examples of featured memes under them). If you make a meme on those, it shouldn't take more than 1-2 hours to feature, unless maybe you've written a lot of bad words or something controversial on it.

2. Memes on templates that have original pictorial content (ie, an image you upload yourself, even if just added to the meme, or templates you search on imgflip that don't have any examples featured yet). If you make a meme on those, there's really no telling how long it will take to feature, since it has to be reviewed individually by the mods. We don't know when the mods' shifts are, or how often they do meme reviews. It can take anywhere from 2 to 24 hours to feature. After 24 hours I would just give up and assume it was disapproved.

So if your meme was the second kind, 5 hours is actually not incredibly long, and isn't anything to worry about.

There's a couple of other little tips beyond those, but understanding the difference between established templates and original templates is really the main thing.

If you want, feel free to send me the link to your meme, and I'll take a look at it.

Thank you so much for your thorough explanation! - It makes a lot more sense now. I try not to use the established, known templates, but I don't think I ever waited as long as 5 hours before. And I tend not to write a lot of bad words, lol. But I did however just realize that it could have something to do with the time of submission, since my time zone is UTC+1? I uploaded this meme: imgflip.com/i/1jlq4f - again, thanks a lot!

The time of submission that seems to work best for me when I'm submitting memes on non-standard templates is somewhere around 10am-11am EST (that's anecdotal, though - I haven't tested all times exhaustively).

And the other tip I have is: always make your memes right before you submit them (that applies to both kinds of memes). The reason is that images featured in Latest are ordered by when they're generated, not by when they're submitted - so if you wait a while between generating and submitting a meme, it'll be farther down the page than it has to be when it comes out. Have fun! :)

I will try and see if I can wait to submit until 10-11am EST :) - and then make sure the meme is generated right before being submitted. I really appreciate your help - it's awesome of you! Have fun too and have a beautiful day :)

No, I kind of think it should be flagged.

Partly because of the innuendo of the meme, but even more so because of the kind of comments that are bound to be on it. If you're scrolling through imgflip and want to keep that stuff in a separate category, the NSFW flag should make it easy to do that. But we'll see what happens. :)

As I wrote, it's more about the comments. Since that's a big part of participating on the site, there's no point having a non-NSFW meme if all the comments are NSFW. The comments should match the meme.

Okay, that's a good point you've got there. On the other hand, just because something can be abused doesn't invalidate legitimate use.

As in, if people had a NSFW filter on, they wouldn't see those comments? Interesting idea.

"Nipple recognition software" lol

Just to be clear, I don't actually agree that this would work (I just did the Batman and Robin comment as a gag, since it's a cliche that people so often disagree online).

It's an interesting idea, and I could see why someone would want it, but it wouldn't work in practice. The main reason is that users can't be trusted to auto-flag their own comments. It's not realistic to expect mods to check every comment on every meme before the comments are viewed by others.

So, unless something changes (e.g. someone developing software that can reliably identify NSFW comments instantly), my view is that if there are comments on a meme that are of the NSFW kind, then that meme should be flagged NSFW whether the meme itself is or not. And if there's any doubt, it should go on the safe side. It doesn't hurt anyone to have their memes flagged NSFW.
1 up, 7y
They auto flag based on keyword or picture as it is for submitted content. I would think it'd just apply the rules/filter/policy to the comment section.

NSFW on a submitted meme usually means death to it. Comments don't seem to matter, yeah.

The technology to auto-flag keywords is in place, but you can get around it by rephrasing.

The technology to auto-flag pictures doesn't exist to my knowledge. There's no way to program a computer to reliably tell the difference.

I understand that a NSFW flag can often mean death to a meme (not 100% though). But that does no harm to the user. There's no obligation on imgflip's part to ensure our memes perform well, are widely seen, get a lot of upvotes or anything like that. It's not something we're entitled to.
1 up, 7y
The mods and users flag pictures I think. I would imagine programming parameters for that would be a nightmare. You'd have to use some sort of nipple recognition software lol
5 ups, 7y
I don't think it should be flagged but when it is flagged the comments are easier to get lost on lol

I dedicated it to Natalie_vance, because I came up with it while trying to think of things to put on her meme asking for our "disturbing memes." :)
