Most people, it seems, are unaware of their writing being emotional. If I call a user a poopyhead, for example, it's the same as calling them a shithead. The difference is perception from the reader. Poopyhead is a childish term, not meant to be taken to seriously and on the insult scale comes in at about a 2. Shithead, on the other hand, is considered vulgar and ride, coming in at between an 8 and a 10.
I mention this because, when you fill out a feedback form, and the mod sees that your comments are civil, your timeout will be suspended, along with having the ability to meme comment being restored.
Another key point: never attack the poster directly. You may dispute the post or the comment, but not personally the poster. That becomes a personal attack, that, in turn, is a violation of the TOS.
Eventually, I see attitudes will change on the actual tjmeouts, especially as more people start using pro accounts. I understand mods are actually replying to those. It's a case of the bottom line. Do we allow the free accounts to chase away the cash accounts? If you go pro, you still have the personal responsibility to be civil. Downvote party organizers generally have the skill to push people beyond their limits. Like arguing with a fool, they drag you down to their level of ignorance then beat you with experience.
