Depends on where you fit in on the "Progressive" income tax/Medicare- Obamacare scale. Some lose a bit. Others win big.
But, you have to HAVE something, to get touched up. And for that you receive the benefit of PUBLIC HEALTH (cause communicable diseases tend to spread, untreated).
I realize that attribution bias says that: 'I got what I got through hard work and character...
You succeed because you're a brown nosing suck-up... (Or something like that).' That's how it tends go.
But the Middle Class in this Country was a Creation of the last century. And much of that owes to FHA loans....the GI bill and other programs that provided opportunity to Certain groups and Not Others. So to me ... Pulling up the ladder behind one. is exceedingly shabby behavior.
I get your point - and I personally Refuse "benefits"- whenever possible....or to the extent a RIGHT is being called a privilege/benefit... there are OTHER ways.
BUT I wouldn't try and decide for Another...what would be best for them. Someone Disabled to the point of dependency....for instance, should remain a "person" and not People, unless independently wealthy..
So I speak up for myself, ONLY (generally).

Believe it or not, I do respect you enough to reach out.... So please Don't take this the wrong way.
Democratic, Libertarian, Socialism would closely approximate my poliical philisophy - meaning Bottom-up and mutually agreeable socialism....but in some ways I'm all over the map. And Free Market theory is NOT new to me...though it can be hard to find one, in my experience.
As a society, we PICK winners and losers through generally invisible means. So the expectation of some people - who've been getting a lot of help traditionally, can lead to an unwarranted sense of entitlement....So the pipefitters, BAKKE and some of the Firefighters who've lrailed against "Reverse Racism"-" are missing the point. Because one either takes a chauvinistic Eugenic "Nature" position to describe disparities between race....rich and poor folks as well. Or one accepts that.environment and Nurture has a lot to do with things....
