Unfortunately that's who is mostly minimum wage. Not like they have a huge choice in the matter. This is an eye opener if you want to open your eyes: https://www.bls.gov/opub/reports/minimum-wage/archive/characteristics-of-minimum-wage-workers-2014.pdf

Thank you for sharing that with me libtard!
It was interesting to see that the more education one had, the less likely, by half, that one would only make min. wage.
While I understand the plight of those who are trying to make ends meet...
I was once a high school/college student struggling to survive... but I also lived within my means...That sometimes made me go with out... sometimes food... but, it made me "hungry" to succeed and make something for myself and want more than what min. wage could provide... so I worked smarter, and got a degree and worked my way up the ladder, getting experience and knowledge and opened my own business and became successful on my own.
If I had settled on min. wage as an OK income to live on, I would not be where I am today.
And although I lost my sight 6 years ago, and can no longer do what I did...I still have that drive, that desire to be my own woman and not settle for min. wage, or in my case, social security...
As my Uncle Frankie used to say "I did it my way!"

No one that works 40 hours a week should go hungry or live undignified life. I am not saying they should live extravagantly but in reality these are the jobs out there that people have to have to support themselves. When corporate profits are at record highs as well as worker productivity as well as stock markets....but wages are stagnate for 20 years, something is wrong. The money is there to pay people a living wage. There is no excuse not to. A strong middle class drives the economy. Stagnate wages for 20 years doesn't help the middle class.

Agreed that corporations make way more in profits and should share the wealth with their employees... but that IS their choice to share or not to share, just as it is a workers choice to work there or not work there.
Min. wage has increased slowly over the years, many time NOT keeping up with inflation.
If someone wants to work 40 hours a week to support a family, fast food is not the place for them... Kids need to think ahead and get an education.
Whether it is a degree or a trade... something that will take them out of the min. wage mentality and offer them a real paycheck.
Some really good paying jobs involve skill sets, not degrees... ever needed a plumber, mechanic or electrician? How about getting a really good pedicure or manicure without having to learn Vietnamese? Have your pool serviced or lawn taken care of without Spanish? I have noticed that people will pay a little more to have someone they can actually communicate with and get the job done right.
So far, no one has mastered the language of the crappy fast food order speaker... yet, the employees are demanding $15 an hour to get my order wrong EVERY single time!
People need to realize that flippin' burgers is not a career... it is a means to an end... graduation , and a better paying job.
There are jobs, career opportunities, and business ventures out there for those who can think outside the box and want to be their own boss... set their own wages depending upon their own success.

the first federal minimum wage was first introduced by Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1938. Minimum wage was set at 25 cents an hour, which works out to about $4 per hour in today’s money.
Here is a rundown of minimum wages the last 20 years... Just so you have your facts right...
October 1996 (Clinton): $4.75/hr ($7.08/hr)

September 1997 (Clinton): $5.15/hr ($7.51/hr)

July 2007 (GW Bush): $5.85/hr ($6.61/hr)

July 2008 (GW Bush): $6.55/hr ($7.12/hr)

July 2009 (Obama): $7.25/hr ($7.80/hr)

Yes... a strong middle class runs the economy... we NEED someone in office who understands business and that imposing obamacare and other taxes on small business does nothing but hurt the economy and America.
We have seen the rich get richer and the poor get poorer and the middle class start to disappear the last 8 years.
I don't like Trump... but, I pray that he will help the Middle class... no, ALL of America be strong again. I am hoping that he will turn out to be a good President...I hope, but am not holding my breath.

If the fast food places actually paid $15/hr imagine the pool of employees they could pick from. You'd get much better workers.

Seattle did it and it resulted in more business and better wages.

Read a Billionaire's take that actually gets it: http://www.pbs.org/newshour/making-sense/column-claim-wages-go-jobs-will-go-isnt-theory-scam/

I used to live in Seattle area... and prices there, for just about everything is astronomical compared to the rest of the country.
I am grateful I don't live there anymore... the rain, the rain, the rain, the traffic, the rain, the high prices, the rain, the moss, the rain, the traffic, the rain... did I mention the rain?

I also was a business owner... and it was far better for me to move... for my profit margin.
Everything was so much lower in cost for my business in Utah... everything!
Although I could not charge as much, I more than made up for the offset from the savings in every other aspect of my budget.
So I know about Seattle... and don't miss it much at all.
I do miss Ivar's Fish... can't get good seafood in the desert!

I heard that in cities that set the minimum wage at $15/hour a lot of employees started asking their employer to give them less hours because their income would make them disqualified for gouvernment subsidies. So much for wanting to "earn" a living wage. They just want to work less to live.

That is true...
If you are in social security... you can only make so much extra a month if you still want to work..
Anything you make beyond that and they take your social security, or a portion of it away..
It is a catch 22.
Good for those who really physically can't work longer hours...
But bad for those that still want to cause it helps their self esteem in feeling productive..

A while back, I read an article where someone wanted to test the validity of minimum wage. He placed all of his possessions into someone else's control and made himself artificially homeless. His goal was to have a job, food and an apartment by the end of one year.

This man begged, then worked while living under a bridge, then a shelter and eventually an apartment. It was not easy, but he made it happen. He was even able to afford a cell phone and TV before the end of the year, but nothing more.

The moral is that it is entirely possible to live on minimum wage and lift yourself out of homelessness, but it takes hard work.

While I do not disagree with that I also know how hard it is to basically be able to afford the slightest of luxuries since your savings will never accumulate, and if you lose your job eviction from your apartment is a scary, harsh reality. Politicians on the other hand are so far out of touch with reality they think nothing less of staying in hotels that cost more in one night than their average constituent makes in a month and booking first class flights everywhere while most people on minimum wage can't afford the money at the start of the month to purchase a bus pass.

Last I knew the guidelines that determine you poverty stricken date back to the 1960s.
2 ups, 8y
If they pay out of their own pocket, good for them. I don't know of any law school or political science graduate that works for minimum wage because they can't ever get a better job. That's why people make the sacrifice to get a degree. If the benefits of doing so weren't worth it, they wouldn't go through the trouble. If you want to live like a politician, find out what they did to get there and try it yourself. But complaining about income inequality is like complaining about education or skill inequality. Don't complain, do something useful about it.

I've noticed some elected officials complaining that they don't make enough money to "survive". Six digit income and all. But then, you look at why they can't and shake your head. I have to get on my computer to look up on member of Congress that was quite vocal about it.

He must have never heard of birth control because he has a large brood of kids at home. Of course, he has a nice, large house but the money he saves on condoms sure doesn't cover the mortgage, much less the mortgage on his quarter million dollar lake cottage or any of the other fine things he's acquired.

Survive on minimum wage? I won't even get started on the perks they had over the years.

Here in Canada, our Prime Minister has been to 20 different countries and has only been in power 14 months. And now wants 40 million to upgrade the official residence. Explains why he's always on the road. Or should I say, always in the air on private aircraft.

Every so often, our executive mansion needs upgrades. Major upgrades. I want to say the last one was in the 50s, and it was the first major upgrade since some Canadians tried to burn it down in the 1800s.

It doesn't matter who's in the White House here, there will always be moaning about how much vacation time that person spends away from the oval office.

Our congressional and Senate reps spend a lot of time going back and forth between Washington and their home districts. Besides reimbursement for those trips, they can chose their own vehicle at taxpayer expense, among other things. Tigt now they have a cost of living adjustment concerning their pay raises. It's been in effect for years. The mistake they made was the failure to put a COLA in the minimum wage law, so every time it comes up, the amount it needs raised is almost prohibitive. The last attempt, about four years ago, was to raise it to just over $10 hour. Because that failed, now the pysh is $15 hour.

We're cool. I didn't see the matches, but I loved watching hockey às a boy. Nowadays, if you asked me to name a player, I could only mention Greztky, and he retired ages ago. Still, I bet they were some interesting games the boys played. Excitement! Thrills! Where I live, basketball is the sport of choice, if the phrase Hoisier Hysteria means anything to you.
