Picture the original meme that features as a headline in the newspaper. It gets your attention. Next, someone makes a witty comment. You reply with a witty comment and from there, it's game on. The comments section is usually funnier because, as people try to one up the other, the list becomes hilarious, building jokes and memes.
By having fellow flippers replying, you get feedback that can lead to featured memes. One comment I considered making actually became my first page one meme. Made it, submitted it, linked it, and then posted the link. Until it ran its course, only one meme kept it from the top spot, and that was a Raydog meme.
You'll get a lot of comments on this, but they may not be as funny as a good meme will get. I just posted a new years Pun a few hours back, and it immediately brought the punsters out. Only one stayed to play, but I expect the others may join back in.
