Manfred Man changed so of the lyrics supposedly, but I didn't feel like reading to find out. Like you, finding out it was a Springsteen song, I lost all interest immediately....lmao! :)

I had no idea so many dislike Bruce Springsteen now, I understand why, even though it's just a few people here saying it, I'm will to bet it's a good representation of a lot of people! :)

If someone described his music to me, I'd say give me a listen, I outta like it.
But other than some of the somber minimal stuff, I always wondered why I couldn't get into his stuff. I even recorded a concert off the radio back in the late 70s, and I still didn't like it no matter how much I listened. (Funny, becaue I had the stereo on real low cuz it was on late and everyone was sleeping, and I was wondering, "Why are they all booing?" haha

Plus that whole, "~ And the working man at the factory that I never worked at while I found 'true love' by cheating on my wife ~" claptrap bugged the frig outta me,,,

And the Springsteen version sucked.

I haven't heard the Springsteen version, but I'm going to definitely take your word for and and save myself the agony! Lol :)

You might as well, just for the heck of it and to appreciate Manfred Mann's version even more (btw, I'm listening to that whole MM album for the first time on YouTube now. Always wanted to get it, but my $1p/wk allowance went to Kiss and Alice and Bowie and Punk and stuff).
