I am Canadian and I have to admit I was a bit afraid of Trump becoming president because of trade. I was impressed with his speech last night though, and maybe he will be "presidential" after all.

Yeah. Well, it will be hard for him: The Media is completely against him they're already talking about how the stocks dropped blah blah. His speech last night was good though. He came off very polished and presidential.. Hopefully it will stay that way!!

Stocks dropped initially, but they are actually up now on the Toronto stock exchange. I assume the NYSE and Dow are also up.

same thing happened after Brexit but soon picked up. people seem to forget stocks and money values go up and down all the time, they only pay attention to falls when they have an agenda to push :-)

It was actually better than I expected, I was holding my breath hoping he didn't stick his foot in his mouth. I realized it might be safe to exhale when he said:

I was referring to the fact stocks dropped because of Trumps election (according to the media). The market is controlled by tons of outside factors.

The market is controlled by those who invest in it.
In addition, supply and demand and whatever regulations also add to the vagaries,,,,

the markets are controlled by a handful of people. george soros almost single-handedly bankrupted the UK a few years ago through his shady dealings

The Great Recession had many causes, but one big one was that poorer folks deciding the mortages on their newly acquired homes wasn't worth it. With that went other investments, including derivatives - basically folks hedging on their risky investments.
Translation, people only a few steps from poverty in the US collapsed the world economy.
So I erred, the markey is controlled by Americans. Even the poor ones.
