Long before I discovered his books, I was emulating Groucho's penchant for the written word. Went one summer as a kid without a TV. I discovered the encyclopedia set my grandparents bought when Mom was born. I did t read it cover to cover, but one thing it had was a collection of classic stories for children, including Treasure Island, Peter Pan, and many of the great Greek myths. By Christmas, I discovered Robert Heinlein and his science fiction.
Gilligan? I watched him when I was younger: first run episodes on Saturday night, while Grandma was in her room watching Lawrence Well.
I also read comic books: DC to be exact. I liked the stories, only to discover that their writers also wrote science fiction, a mainstay in my later years.
Lastly, my brain processes information differently than others. A glimmer of understanding is all it takes for me to understand a concept as well, or better, than the person teaching me.
I recently understood the difference between a deficit, a surplus, and how it affects our national debt. Took 5 minutes.
Warning. Asking me a question, even humorously may likely result in a long answer.
Let's just say I are smart.
