I actually don't remember many details about the show, but I'm sure the show influenced a few of my record purchases. :)

Lemme tell you a little story. Dr. Demento went to school at Reed College here in Portland. Reedies think they're hot shit because Reed is supposed to be exclusive and full of uber-intelligent types. They have Renn Fayre once a year where students go ape and drink and drug and group sex 'cause they're the elite and can do what they want. Whenever an alum gets uppity around me I always remind them that the most famous graduate of Reed is Dr. Demento. Usually followed by the second-most which is the founder of the Universty of Phoenix, which is the least exclusive school. :P

In my area, Dr. Demento came on at the same time as some of my favorite TV shows, and we didn't have a VCR, so I used to tape-record his show off the radio and listen to it later. The really nice part was I could listen to each show several times.

Hansen created the Demento persona in 1970 while working at Los Angeles station KPPC-FM.[1] After Hansen played "Transfusion" by Nervous Norvus on the radio, DJ "The Obscene" Steven Clean said that Hansen had to be "demented" to play that. Thereafter, the name stuck. His weekly show went into syndication in 1974[1] and from 1978 to 1992 was syndicated by the Westwood One Radio Network. Broadcast syndication of the show ended on June 6, 2010, but the show continues to be produced weekly in an online version.
-Source: Wikipedia. I wasn't an avid listener. But sometimes I was up late and happened to catch it on the radio. The music consisted of novelty, comedy songs. Some were funny and others were a bit too corny. :)

Unless you mean the band lol. So basically it was like a Weird Al/Howard Stern type show?

More like just a Weird Al show. :)

I've enjoyed that show many times. ;) Being brought up in a rather strait laced home, things like Wacky Packages and PLOP comic book were a kind of guilty pleasure. I love your consistently funny and creative memes. I'm from the same state as Mark Twain, btw.

Thank you. I enjoyed the MAD Magazines when I was growing up.

Loved the MAD mags. PLOP was along that line. Only it was about weird Stories only bad luck Brian could truly appreciate. ;) Wacky packages spoof regular commercial products. Mostly kids products but apparently they are still around (50th year)
