South Florida is home!

Fort Lauderdale to be exact. We watched with a certain morbid fascination the radar which showed the eye of a cat-4 hurricane pass us just offshore by about 90 miles.

The wind must of been in the 100 though.

Actually not even close. The high winds are closer to the eye in more powerful storms. Think of a spinning figure skater who spins faster as she pulls her arms and legs in. Conservation of momentum.

Oh how stupid of me, I forget the eye is the dangerous part of the storm.

Not stupid at all, don't say that. We still got gusts of 40-50. And the potential for the thing to jog west a bit was always there. We really got lucky. Further up coast got the storm surge -the ocean pushed up about 5-8 feet higher than normal- real bad. When the land is just 4-8 feet above sea level that's pretty serious flooding.
