Man, that is so cool! I worked in my family's dairy (Holstein) this summer because it was going to close down. It was in business for 64 years, and I wanted to be part of that little bit of history. What do you do now?

My uncle ran a dairy farm in Illinois and he'd say, when anyone complained about the smell of manure, smells like money to me! The smell never bothered me but the flies did.

I really feel like I'm among kindred spirits.

Oh I loved visiting him on the farm. There was a place in his back forty was a pit that used to be a rock quarry, we'd dare each other to go down it. We dumb kids didn't know we could kill ourselves that way, but our moms did and thrashed us good when we came back all cut up and bruised lol. Ahhh, good old days.

Yeah...

See, I talked about the quarry pit and not much about the cows? They seemed big and noisy to me and I was scared to death of the bull. But I live surrounded by cows now, the woods in back are grazed by a neighbor's herd and they come into our yard at times, and we've made our peace. :))))))

The tail across the face is rough. So is getting kicked. I actually got sorta run over by one. We we're trying to herd it, and the Hispanic man I was working with it ran it into the barn. I threw my arm out to try and turn it back round. It pinned me between it and the stanchions. It twisted my arm back behind me at like a 60° angle. Pulled all the muscles in my chest. I couldn't use my arm for 2 weeks. It still hurts sometimes. After all that, I've never had a job that I've enjoyed more.

My dad had a diary farm and I worked it till I was 18. We had a mix of milking cows and Belgium horses. He loved taking them to the fairs. Now I work in the ski industry (31 years)

Good stuff. I'd love to have a Belgian.
