A murder is just a killing, while an assassination is done for money or has a political motive.

I agree. Plus assassins are usually working for someone else that wants the person killed.

Actually, an adjustment to this must be made in light of newer info:
A Murder is an unjust killing.
Every other death is just a killing.
Every assassination is a murder, every murder is a killing, but not every killing is an assassination or murder.

Raven was on point as far as politically motivation. Gotti paid killers to get rid of competition or teach a lesson. Those were not assassinations.

Assassination is a politically or socially motivated murder.

You assassinate someone for what they believe or what social power they have; you murder for lesser reasons. Or something like that.

Yes, it is a good question. Minor fine tune on your explanation: "on how it will affect others". Take local theater owner, Bill Miller. Had about a dozen or so theaters. He was murdered in his office. It affected a large majority of people: his patrons, his employees, friends, associates, etc. It was considered a murder because he was a businessman. Still unsolved. All his theaters havecshut down. Two drive ins now house Wal-Mart stores.

I'd say the figure would have to be elected official or prominent SJW. Huey Long would be an elected official and MLK would be an SJW. Madeline O'Hare and her family was murder because the force behind it was theft.

Not sure what Jimmy Hoffa would have been.
