Even back in the days before the web, there were a large number of people that would reach out to others, especially talented people. I learned this in the Usenet newsgroup alt.binaries.pictures.erotica.animated.gifs. as good as I was, I learned a lot from other animators on various techniques. The "boob bounce" was one of the first things I learned, and it rested solely on Newton's Law Of Motion.
Mind you, these animations generally came from still photos or drawings, not scenes from current videos. Hustler cartoons were the best source for animating, and Dan Collins loved what we did.
But it doesn't matter what the field is: astrophysics, animation, graphic manipulation, or any other number of things. Those that do well, on the internet, are often happy to mentor new faces.
