Some food for thought.

I've been here almost 2 years and just now scratched 300k. Some of the "top" users here have been here less than a year and have 1-2-3-4 million. I would go to the page 9 party if it was worth ZERO points. It is freaking hilarious! Read thru the comments from this one from last Monday and tell me you wouldn't have a blast!!!

The points come from having fun, the having fun comes from participation!!!

Even back in the days before the web, there were a large number of people that would reach out to others, especially talented people. I learned this in the Usenet newsgroup alt.binaries.pictures.erotica.animated.gifs. as good as I was, I learned a lot from other animators on various techniques. The "boob bounce" was one of the first things I learned, and it rested solely on Newton's Law Of Motion.

Mind you, these animations generally came from still photos or drawings, not scenes from current videos. Hustler cartoons were the best source for animating, and Dan Collins loved what we did.

But it doesn't matter what the field is: astrophysics, animation, graphic manipulation, or any other number of things. Those that do well, on the internet, are often happy to mentor new faces.

No, I'm not on the leaderboard. I don't worry about it. I'm just having fun.

We're just users like any others. We're just doing our thing.

We're not rigging and conspiring to keep other users down (at least as far as I know), but neither are we the saviors of the site. It seems like people tend to paint popular users at one or other of those extremes, but I don't think either one is true.

It's not just top users who join in the "page 9 parties" - it's new users, too. And people could be participating mostly because they're fun, rather than to help other users (although that could be part of it, too).

Thanks for making this meme. I agree with the "stop whining" tag, and I think a lot of other people do too.

Hey buddy, this may not be the time or the place, but the downvote crew wants a raise, all 237 of them. I checked with Raydog, Dash and Invicta, they're all okay with it, but they feel like the upvote team has been slacking lately and we need to take the raise out of their paychecks. Let me know what you think.

Yeah, I'm... relatively new? Joined back in May of this year, but I love page 9 parties.

When people start getting into back and forth on meme comments, it's one of the most fun parts of the site (whether it's on Page 9 or anywhere else)!

I've been gone for awhile and i need to know one thing. What's a Page 9 party?

A page 9 party usually happens every Monday night at 9 pm EST. Page 9 party is where you go to the Latest page (not the Hot page), and head over to page 9. There, you upvote and comment on the memes you like and maybe even semi-like. There have been a lot of people complaining that only the top users get the front page, and ever since the page 9 parties, that is no longer true. I've seen a lot of newer users to get the front page these days.
