Sounds like a smart person. Thus the bar manager would be stupid to fire them. Hopefully the manager got canned.

I've worked at plenty of places where the ownership or management has changed hands,q new boss gets appointed and they come in with guns a blazin.

So the owner got fired? I mean....if the liquor license is in his name he must be an owner, right?

Not necessarily. Could have been someone they paid a higher wage to in order to use their license. I would think it would be similar to construction trades. For instance I have my master electrical license. Someone who wants to start an electric company can do so without their own license if they have someone like me and use my license. When doing that, they normally get paid a much higher wage than other workers as it is their license that is on the line when things go wrong. The only difference here is the new manager would just have to apply for a new liquor license, where as with a contractors license you have to have experience and to be able to pass the test.

Thanks for adding that. Like I said I'm not sure how that works with the food and beverage industry. The field that I work in someone needs to have a hazmat diploma to plate parts. The company runs off of that guys diploma. If that guy leaves somebody else has to go to school. Just wasn't sure how it works for the drinking establishments.

Should be the same way. The government normally doesn't care who the license is under, just as long as a license is tied to the business.

Where I live liquor licenses go for $100k+ and are issued based on population size. Typically the establishment owner holds the license. They don't just float to wherever the licensee wants to go. Not that they probably couldn't do that....it's just not common if it it does happen. Typically the owner of the bar/liquor store holds the license.

It makes more sense for that to be the case, but if someone owns an establishment or just opened up one and would like to serve alcohol but don't have the money for the license, it would be another option for them to find someone who does have one. It can also benefit someone who didn't have a successful business but still have the license and make money off of it.

I think it depends on how big the establishment is. Then again, not sure.

I work on the receiving dock of a social/athletic club with several eating/drinking facilities. Every once-in-a-while one of the beer truck drivers will say they were told to check our license out and ask where it is. I just have to shrug my shoulders and say "damned if I know".

Probably different from state to state. I'm in Va and the license is issued to the establishment individually. If you wanted to open another place you'd have to apply for another license.

It makes sense that each individual shop has it's own license on property. I live in Mass. and licenses are issued through the local government.

Tells me the owner can't get a license because: (a) the city has maxed out their approved licenses, or (b) the owner does not qualify due to criminal or credit issues. Could be the employee already had license before working there but I guess the employee got license because boss can't have one in own name.

Hmmm. That's only half a story. What were they fired for?
