It just makes me wonder why they would reply to something they don't like enough to upvote first....

Unfortunately, some people are in such a rush to toot their own proverbial horn via a smug or smart-azz reply, they are all too eager to click the POST COMMENT button and thus forget about upvoting. I'm sure there are other reasons, but that's the first one that comes to mind.

I'm sure there are multiple reasons this happens not all of them bad. i will still upvote a user who forgets to do it back if their comment is funny. It's only when it happens multiple times that I realize they are only commenting in hopes of people seeing their stuff on my meme and upvoting it. Upvoting is such a habit for me I do it without thinking, sometimes before the meme even loads. Socrates told me long ago it is better to error on the side of upvoting and I took that to heart. I am not competitive and simply upvote anything that brings a smile to my face. Only rude or immature users don't get my upvotes, they pretty much have to obviously be trying to be a jerk to make me pass them by. I wish there was a counter of how many upvotes a user has given on their profile page. So others could see if a user never upvotes anything which I believe there are some that never upvote anything. I know I can't expect everybody to think like me. I simply don't undertand the way some users act on here but then maybe they don't understand me either.

Oh I know exactly what you mean, this is the best online community I have ever been lucky enough to be part of. Some people are only happy when being negative, this is just a weird place to be that way is all. No matter what mood I'm in I always find many memes here everyday that make me laugh. If a person is unable to find one thing they like here and comment positively on, they are the ones with a problem not everybody else on here having a good time ;)

Sometimes I notice this when I go back to a meme and will hit "upvote" again, but it can be embarrassing if it happens. I wish imgflip would fix this glitch. Just know that if I commented, I've upvoted the meme and other comments.

Mondays have been rough for original templates for a while now, all days have been actually but mondays seem to be the worst. I've been sharing a lot more links recently I think we all should do that more. Some people think it's a type of spam but they put the links there for a reason and it even says to share them when we make them. I know I personally don't care if anybody uses a meme of mine to post them or if they send me one. I appreciate getting links it makes it easier for me not to miss stuff. Send me one anytime if you want and that goes for everybody else as well :)

I didn't take it that way at all. I was just expressing my frustration at the fact that for some reason, my upvotes don't always stick. You're about the closest thing to an automatic uv bro!

Right on, the only thing I've noticed is if I'm scrolling the latest or hot pages and click on a meme to upvote and comment. If I click back page to go back to the same spot on the list I was at, the upvote disappears. I know it happens now so I look for it, but I'm sure there are times I miss it still.

I've had this happen quite a bit as of late myself.

It might be that I'm spoiled by all the great people on this site. I'm so used to making comment chains with people and we always upvote each other. That when somebody doesn't upvote me back I take it too personal idk. It just makes it seem like they didn't like my reply, but then why they keep replying if that is the case doesn't make sense either. I'm far from perfect, and they do more harm to themselves than to me by far. When people see somebody doing that around here they remember it and don't want to reply to those users who seem to only care about themselves. I just made this meme because I didn't want to call any user out by name where others can see it. I'm not here to fight or argue with people. I honestly just wanted them to know I'm not stupid and realize what it is they are doing is all. Sorry it happens to you also, I know you are not alone though, maybe this will make them think about how they are perceived on this site if they even care ;)

New users and those just here to make memes for their personal lives, seem to be the ones that do this the most.

True, I'm not talking about them though. I'm meaning people that are on here all the time who never upvote anybody for any reason ;)

Yep some people dont out of jealousy, competition or because they simply forget. If they dont upvote, others will still, so it's best to just leave that at is. If those users make good memes or comments i will still upvote but what i usually do if they comment is reply but not carry on the convo

There's a few that I know never upvote me but comment on my memes often. I guess they think I'm too stupid to notice. I'll usually still upvote their comments though if they are funny. I always refrain from asking why they don't upvote but that's because their one upvote isn't worth it. If they don't want to fine, we all have the same choice on here. They just shouldn't expect me to be stupid and not see what it is they are doing ;)

I know what you mean, there's a few, and one comes to mind that always leaves a smart ass comment and never upvotes your meme. when they do it to me I'm done with them, and just pass their stuff by whether it be good or not... If i leave a comment I leave an upvote.. :)

Yup you know what I mean exactly. It's funny I started here at about the same time as another user. I think he always felt competitive with me, but I had a good start on here and did pretty good within a month. So he would comment on a lot of my stuff but never upvote me, plus his comments always had that slight edge where I could tell he hated me but didn't want to come right out and say it lol. I think he is still around but I rarely see him anymore ;)

I don't understand why folks wanna be that way, if I see something I don,t like, or mistakes on a meme I just scroll past it. If I can't say something nice or funny I just don't comment :)

I automatically Upvote everything. If my eyes see it my finger taps it. Lol. I have noticed that on occasion my ticks don't take. I meme exclusively on my phone and for whatever reason my votes don't alway stick. I go back later to read new comments and notice my earlier votes are gone. I mean I re-do the upvotes but unfortunately may miss 1or 2 for me that's never intentional. I would guess other phone memers may have this issue.

I've noticed if I upvote something and then hit back page it will disappear, everybody makes mistakes or forgets now and then. The only ones I have a problem with are those that consistently never upvote on purpose...

I,m on a home computer and had that problem had to replace my mouse. several times a day I'll go through the lastest and upvote most everything :)

Thank you rdevita for those kind words.. I just remember when I first started how hard it was to get an upvote sometimes.. and feel the newer memers can use the encouragement.. :)

people here take things WAY to serious sometimes, forgetting that we are all here to try to get a laugh or maybe a smile.....sometimes we succeed-sometimes we fail.

It always makes my day when someone says I made the laugh.. And I have gotten many in return..It's always fun to have one of your memes do well, but it's not the end of the world either.. I'm with you I'm here more for the fun..... :)

I think some users don't know that other people are expecting it. Especially newer or infrequent users. I don't think it's a really big deal.

I realize that, I'm really only talking about 3 people I know of in these comments, the meme itself is just a joke about something I did a couple times. I think it's good to start a dialogue about such things not only for new users to read, but so that those 3 people I'm not mentioning by name know they are rather obviously easy to figure out ;)

Some people are just "lurkers." They have an account but don't submit much. Known mostly for making comments. I see user names and wonder why I've never seen anything from them.

I've seen that also, I wish people didn't use alt accounts so that new users aren't always suspect at first. They can be pretty obvious when they barely have enough points to meme comment, yet they are whining about stuff no new user could possibly know about. How bad a person do you have to be to not be able to hold your bitterness in long enough for people to believe they are actually a new user lol.
