I agree this is a wonderful service and badly needed but....you can't hide the problem with zest, suave, and tide !!!

Many of the homeless vets or otherwise, either choose to be or can't function within what we feel is a normal environment due to drugs, mental illness or both. That having been said, I would strongly prefer our resources to help Americans first. I believe that we can also help the "true refugees" by sending aid while they stay closer to home. We cannot properly vet these asylum seekers & refugees and should not take the risk of being ISIS's Best Friends by bringing them here.

I hope you didn't think that I was dismissing the homeless because of drugs/mental illness. I was just saying that often those that are homeless, do so by choice. Further, I agree with you that we need to channel more funding and resources to help these folks and if push comes to shove...we must help our own first before we address those wanting to come here.

I think if you choose to be homeless because you are mentally ill perhaps a stronger focus on mental illness is warranted. Also drug abuse is rampant amount the mentally ill as they tend to "self-medicate" in order to cope with reality. I don't disagree with you in that many choose that lifestyle however keep in mind they do not choose to be ill. The choices made by a mentally ill person (although they do have the right to refuse aid/treatment ) should not be used by the government to sweep them under the carpet.

Just interested: How many refugees does the US actually take per year? I mean, I get why european people feel like there is no more money left for them with their guovernments taking 1mil + 4-5 fmiliy members per year, but i doen't really get why people in the US can use "refugees" as an excuse why there is no more money...or do they take so many?

Start by scrapping the VA and setting up a voucher system, or at least providing vouchers to some to make the VA load manageable.

I really do think homeless vets should get the benefits they deserve, they did their best to defend our country, but this is what they get, no homes, no food, no place they call home

Its Independence Day weekend and I doubt the founding fathers envisioned the apathy shown toward those who served. The red white and blue is a reminder that we should stand together or we will fall apart.
