Real answer.. if he lives in the basement, and it is in an inner wall... could be water, heat or something like that in inner walls, house settling, a rat, possum or some other critter, could be a snake.
If is the outer walls... I have no clue... something might be trying to burrow in. Do you have badgers there?
I assume the outer walls are concrete... badgers would have a tough time getting through.
Don't even get me started on "Tremors" creatures coming through the walls! LOL

I never said he was my little brother, he's about four years older than me lol. Badgers don't live in my area, I think it could be a chipmunk or possum, and it is an inner wall.

There are a lot of real horror stories about either a pervert a murderer a robber or a homeless person hiding in the walls

A friend of mine... her ex was insane and "lived" in their attic for almost a year before being caught! He drilled holes in the ceilings of each room so he could lay on the attic boards and spy on them. He came down and took showers, ate their food and emptied his potty pot when they were all out of the house.
They would joke that they had a ghost in the house at first, when things were moved or missing... then they started to feel like they were being watched all the time.
The younger kids swore they saw a dark figure standing in the room at night.
Sometimes they would hear noises...
After a while, my friend thought that it was a raccoon in the attic that some how found a way to get in the house while they were gone.
She had a pest control company come to lay some traps up in the attic and what they found creeped them out SOOOO bad!!!!
it was apparent he had been living there for a very long time!
The police finally caught him and he was arrested for massively violating his stalking injunction!
