I know, right? I've had 4-5 memes go all the way to Page 2 or 3, then they go back up thru the pages! And there're memes that sit for days on a page, or lets say they they sot between pgs. 1-3. Meanwhile, my meme theat made it to ph. 2-3 is on page 15 in 4 hours, tell me how that bullshit works? I dont!

It is called being popular enough that your meme gets upvoted just because you made it. This site has become more of a popularity contest, not about making good memes.

It may be parrt of it, bit they use an algorithm to do that, what is the algorithm and what does it contain to do what it does? They took the downvote away, its still there but you dont know how many you may have, so we have one less input to gauge whats going on.

Technically only the counter was taken away, the button and the effects it has on memes and comments is still there. The algorithm uses the number of upvotes each hour on the meme to determine where it is placed in line of the hottest memes, with it starting at the point it is first featured. Each downvote takes away 1 upvote, essentially, in the algorithm. So if you are a popular user, chances are you will be getting more upvotes each hour which increase the memes place in line. Their popularity also helps get them more upvotes while on the front page, which means it keeps a steady pace of upvotes per hour keeping it there for days at a time, until every who could vote on it has and only starts dropping off their position because the number of votes per hour has decreased and others start having a higher rate. So unless a counter is added to see how many votes per hour the meme is reciving, then there really is no way to fully gauge what is going on.

You explain it bery well! I figured it was something like you have just mentioned, bit you said it well! When i started a year ago, when t took forever to get anykind of decent views or votes. It was rather humbling, you doubt that you're good as you think you are. One lesson learned young was, there's always some bigger, badder and better than you. Learn what you can, and do the best that you can. It helps to listen more than you talk. A wise man listens. I have the right to remain silent, i just don't have the ability! Lol. :)

I do alright, when i started here, after talking with Socrates, I had the attitude of make a meme, submit it, and have no expectations whatsoever! Almost everytime I thought a particular meme would be a winner, i was proved wrong. Even to this day i dont get it, but i never dwell on it. There are however occasions where my memes, i even watches other people's memes progression through the pages and they do start doing strange things. And ill keep tabs on # of views and votes (0f course i dont know the downvote count). But I'm positive there is human intervention happening.. I've had to take Calculus for my Engineering Degree and I'm (hey, its been awhile since i ised math like that) almost certain that algorithms dont behave like that. With the occasional paranoia aside, i still love making memes and submitting them and see wjere they go! :)

Imgflip is a strange one indeed. Noone told me bill cosby memes were nsfw. My memes never get over 200 views and im fairly new but i dont care im just here for the fun of it. The memes that make it to the front page for most people or ones they always least expect, so i never look at a submission and say this is going to the front page. I just ride the waves man then comment on and upvote memes i like. I check it out at times though, the movements of the memes as u say doesnt seem to follow a pattern i believe moderators are somehow behind it dunno how they manipulate the memes though, by what standard or motive.

One of the dumbest memes I made got to the front page. The rest, just a few hundred views. Idgaf, it's fun. I'm way too busy to ever be a big dog here, but it doesn't stop the occasional meme from popping out.

When they had downvoting (visable) the memes would move way faster! They're so freaking slow! I think that memes that make the Front Page should roll off the front page. Meaning that they dont go to pg. 2 and beyond. I think if you did that well, send them to a Front Page stream, or something? I believe they just clog up the pages behind them, something like that, you know? :)

It went to my head and I left my wife for a hot young thing. I got hair plugs and liposuction and was popping Viagra like m&ms. But my world came crashing down around me and now I just post simple ideas I steal from the leaderboarders.

It happens! Inwas getting sommany notifications yesterday that i had to type faster than I should be legally allowed! I probably broke a few laws, plus im a felon out on probation, so, i got that going for me! I do alot of things wrong, but I always hide the bodies well! They've haven't found them yet!! :)
