I wonder how much they donated to charities.... which seems to get overlooked too often. Or how many people they employ,... etc. I am not a defender of the rich,.. since I am not,... but I think they are demonized by the left.

PS- how many people they employ with less than living wages leaving the working class taxpayers holding the bill to supplement their incomes with tax-based programs and the employees can spend all they make on imported junk the "job creators" import with cheap labor so they can make MORE money?

That's so nice of them.

The middle class makes jobs. Their demand (when they have money to spend) drives the economy, production and jobs. Not the "job creators." They make money for themselves. Jobs for the middle class is an unfortunate liability to them.

If tax cuts for the rich = jobs....we should be FLUSH with great jobs already.

Watch a "job creator" explain it:

All rich people pay less than living wages? How about the unions raping the mfgs for wages that are ridiculously high,... so we have to pay outrageous $$ for American products. WHat does the average worker get paid at GM,.. Ford,.. etc? That will explain the $50K vehicles. WHat does it cost to make a soft drink? WHat do you pay? Everyone at Coca-cola makes below living wages? Dude,..... please... there is a line here in ATL to get on with Coke. What does the average airline employee earn? Below living wage? You make it sound like every successful company is evil,... paying below living wages. Maybe if the government did not have such high corporate taxes,.. they wouldn't be mfg products outside the US. The system needs repair,.. but it's not rich people that have broken it.

And yet we as a country did greatest when unions were the strongest.

Weird, right?

"The system needs repair,.. but it's not rich people that have broken it."

haha...No? I beg to differ but.... yet they are the ones with the power to fix it.....why haven't they?
3 ups, 8y,

Rich people can fix it? How,... give all their earnings away to lazy people? ha ha!! You're right,.. we "were" strong with unions. Now unions are hustlers for the most part. You didn't answer my question... how much do union employees make at GM,.. Ford? $50 / Hr.... more.... ? How much does a can of soda cost to mfg bro? How much do you pay? No one says crap about that,... but they go after oil companies. Its a joke! ha ha !!!

Well we did great when the top tax bracket was 90%. And unions were strong. And 40 hours a week paid the bills.

Yes....regulations that killed unions and allowed offshoring of jobs.

Don't worry we (taxpayers) still provide billions in subsidies to the coal industry.

Let's just stop that all together.

You mean tax write off charitable donations?
How humanitarian of them.
3 ups, 8y,
1 reply
So what if its a write off,...? They are still helping some people or organization,... right? Why do they have to be demonized for it? The bigger the donation,.. the bigger the write off. Do you get write offs for donations that are relative to your income? People forget,.. not only do the wealthy pay taxes,.. so does their businesses,.. and they people they employ. If they make a donation,... at least it's to a charity THEY chose. Bernie would take their money and give it away to who he wants,... or programs he wants. The government does not give us a say in where our $$ goes. It's crap... like giving $$ to rebuild mosques in another country?? WTF?

Charities are another way to lessen your taxable income. I donate to wounded warriors not for the tax break but because I believe in it. take the tax break away, I will still donate to them.

Do that across the board and you will suddenly see most wealthy folks' donations halt to a trickle.

Really,.. ? No rich people are generous? Too evil? Hmmm...
[deleted]
3 ups, 8y
I never said that, why do you jump to extremes?

Bill & Melinda Gates are very generous. Many other wealthy people are too. Typically the most generous seem to be more "liberal" in their ideologies.
Weird.

Then there's mitt romney-like wealthy folks that buy huge businesses, gut them, fire people in mass, all in the name of "profit" then give to charity and claim to be "generous"....whatever it takes to let them sleep I guess.

They are the "job creators?"....haha....no. No they are certainly not. They create wealth. For themselves and those that are like them. And it rarely if ever "trickles" down. that myth's been busted a millions before.

Reagan had decent (surface level) numbers but he also gutted the production base and killed good paying union jobs and allowed companies to offshore jobs.

Numbers are one part of the big picture. I agree. But you can't have it both ways and blame one party when the other is just as bad...or good.

I make WAY more money than I should to be a democrat. I just happen to think we all will do better under their policies. For all intents and purposes I should vote Republican for the quick tax breaks (again a surface level number) but I know I won't do that well down the road when their policy decisions really come home to roost. Like GWB cutting taxes (short term YAY FOR ME!!) and then raiding Social Security to pay for 2 unfounded wars (long term BOOOOO for all the regular people)

So I noticed you're a Bernie supporter.. No Bernie supporter can answer this (besides "you're a twit" or some rhetoric) And I would genuinely like to hear the answer.
So, currently, the top %1 obviously play a crucial roke in running the major companies in Anerica, not to ment the millions/billions they have invested here. So if Bernie is elected, why would they not
1. liquidate all their financial holdings (stocks bonds etc)
2. Move their money to a tax haven like the cayman islands
3. Take their companies to China or dismantle them here.
4. Leave the US for a country more lenient towards taxpayers
Please, no BS about "they won't because we won't let them". Thats the answer I always get. If I had 50 mil, I'd be willing to lose 20 mil to leave rather than stay and get taxed to death. Thanks in advance

Well unfortunately you don't want to hear the answer. "they won't because we won't let them" is the basic answer. Also, liquidating and moving money offshore is dumb unless the ROI is better than what they get here, which is doubtful or they would do that now.

Leaving the country is what businesses do now but not necessarily for tax friendlier countries....why? because there aren't many and they still get taxed on what they do here. But some already do...like Walmart do in Luxembourg (http://www.motherjones.com/mojo/2015/06/walmart-tax-evasion-luxembourg)

Penalizing American companies is what we should do (Like Trump says) for moving production etc overseas. And we should place tariffs on imported products (even if they come in by "american" companies that move overseas) to level the playing field against falsely devalued currency countries.

Make it LESS attractive for companies and the wealthy to offshore their money, like they already do in some cases to evade/avoid taxes but it's highly unlikely they would pull out of all the markets etc. That's silly.

Okay, but I mean, America is not the only market to sell things. And how do we make it LESS attractive to leave by raising their taxes to a very high rate?
And like I said before, they might be williong to lose 10 million of 20 million vs. losing it all
[deleted]

If those people cannot do business in the biggest and best market in the world their attitudes will change and they will not want to lose a little bit in your opinion.
1 up, 8y
No comment about whether it's right or wrong, but: If the 'very rich' and 'corporations' are taxed at inreased rates, they will simply pass on the cost to the consumers and employees -- in the form of: higher prices for products; offering less jobs; giving fewer pay raises; increasing workloads..... The politicians who go around demanding tax increases on the 'very rich', KNOW very well that this will happen; it is really their way of getting a 'hidden tax' increase on the working classes..... It should be blatantly obvious, but the electorate (voters) don't think.

Couldn't directly reply to red line statement above. "Offering less jobs; giving fewer pay raises; increasing workloads". Those things have already happened in spades with current tax structure. I think that's why people want a change of some sort so badly.
1 up, 8y
so..... even higher prices, even lower pay,... etc.... whatever it is, it'll just get passed down
