Homelessness is a multifaceted issue. Primarily, it is mental illness and/or substance abuse related. There are of course people that have fallen upon hard times through physical illness, other poor choices, etc. For those that require just a hand up, the solution is far easier than for those suffering from addiction or mental illness. Simply providing homes, tiny or large to the addicted just gives them a place to feed their addictions. The same goes for those with mental illnesses. They are "out of the elements" but no closer to overcoming the challenges facing them. The government throwing money at the problems enriches their friends while "helping" few of the needy. There is a nearby shelter that provides beds, meals, and training for those interested and that qualify for that level of assistance and help for the addicted and mentally ill to get them in the path to be candidates. It is primarily privately funded by churches and individuals with little government assistance. Government is good at killing and setting and maintaining the boundaries of any given society and very little else.
