It could... Removing the more... feral from among us used to be seen as both the consequences of bad behavior and a necessary way of protecting the whole of civilization. Now it's viewed as evil incarnate and a stifling of an individual just wanting to live their own "truth" of being entrepreneurs with things appropriated from the previous owners. Those, like the "Karen" in training needed parents that would apply suitable levels of accountability in the appropriate moments to steer them back to something more akin to sane pursuits and away from civilization wrecking balls.
