I think the Tarantula thing had more to do with growth hormones and stuff. But who cares? As long as there is entertainment. In the film "Them!" Leonard Mr Spock Nimoy had one of his first roles, as a policeman 👍🏻

I don't think it was a real irradiated spider, so you might be right but cinema is the suspension of disbelief and if you 'pick holes', it does spoil the enjoyment

It was a real normal spider shot from close angle. Wise cinematography I'd say. We don't see that nowadays thanks to CGI.
