Islamists, duh 🙄

Thanks for clarifying. It seems one or two others have indeed interpreted this to refer to Muslims in general (and possibly even specifically Iranian Muslims). Two billion people is a lot of people to lump into a single monolithic group.

Who is "they"? One nutjob misguided young Londoner who says he hates Jews and Christians "for the sake of Allah" and will chop people's heads off in a war is not 1.9 billion Muslims (aka ~25% of the global population) and not almost 90 million Iranians, if that's what you're presumably referring to. (Plus, Iran is very ethnically diverse and they're not all Muslim anyway. Iran also has a well-established Jewish community (2,700 years old) of up to 10,000 or even more, along with Arabs, Christians, Baháʼís and a number of other groups.)

That's not what said young man's whole religion teaches and plenty of actual Islamic scholars would disagree with him (possibly very strongly). Anyway, that Indian evangelical Arul Velusamy preacher guy who runs that channel is arguably a bit of a troll, no offence. His channel is full of heavily edited clickbait. Not that you can edit out stuff like said nutjob said, of course, so I agree there's no getting away from that, but still. A lot of it is in the genre of "X owns Y" and in reality the other person was just trying to explain their POV to him without him interrupting or shouting over them after he posed very complex questions, and he edits out half the conversation to make them look stupid. Similar to Charlie Kirk (a famous Trump-supporting Christian, who actually does talk a lot of sense, in my opinion, and to his credit generally tries to stay very civilized (he's a good speaker) but is also often guilty of this kind of thing in order to go viral). Helps their side hustle too.

He has other videos claiming stuff like the UK police are Shariah-sympathizers when all they did was politely ask him to stop interviewing a guy who didn't want to be filmed. (It's not generally illegal to film people in the UK, but if people don't want to talk or be filmed for your videos, you can't force them. Plus it's Speaker's Corner where the whole point is you're allowed to debate and have free speech about anything as long as you remain civil. But accusing them of being Shariah-sympathizers is pushing it a bit.)

Yes, it's disturbing that people like that young guy have those crazy disturbing views. You can also find unhinged US "Christians" and crazy Jewish settlers and all manner of crazy people who sympathize with ethnic cleansing and other immoral stuff. Doesn't mean they represent millions (or billions) of other people.

It's important not to generalize swathes of people based on a minority of people with extreme views.

It's true that the Persian slogan "Marg bar Âmrikâ!" literally means "Death to/upon America!" But you're actually right that they don't tend to mean it in that literal sense (of wishing for violence against the American people). It's usually translated in official Iranian government sources and other propaganda as simply "Down with America!"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_to_America

Some people also say "Death to the Dictator". They're not necessarily calling for Khamenei to be assassinated, but they *are* calling for the regime to fall.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_to_the_Dictator

In English, we often say, "To hell with... !" We also don't usually literally mean we are condemning a person or thing to eternal hellfire. It's an expression. Millions of atheists use it who don't even believe in hell.

We even sometimes tell our friends to "go to hell" or say, "Damn you!" We are not generally thinking that we want to condemn (con"damn") our friends to everlasting fiery torment.

We also say, "Off with their heads!" as a joke, referencing the line from Alice in Wonderland. We wouldn't expect a non-English speaker to think we were actually calling for anyone to be decapitated in 2025 (with the exception, perhaps, of people like the guy in that video above).

And a lot of people say, "Just nuke it!" to talk about killing bugs or even other things like entire countries, as a dark joke. It's so common, in fact, that you can even find it on T-shirts and badges:

https://www.amazon.com/When-Doubt-Morale-Patch-Round/dp/B09BKB24NZ

https://www.amazon.com/Amby-Ambys-Nuke-it-T-shirt/dp/B07DW2K1ZC

And just like in Persian, in English people also say "Death to... !" for tons of things, even inanimate things that can't, by definition, die. "Death to taxes!" "Death to the Patriarchy!" "Death to capitalism!"

TL;DR: "Death to America", or "Down with American/US interference in the region or in Iranian politics" or something.

PS This is specifically about the Persian slogan. Again, it doesn't relate to the countless millions of other Muslims in the world who don't even speak Persian.

You mean the Kaaba in Mecca, or are you talking about some Islamic aeroplane?

Inside the Kaaba is basically... nothing. Mainly just some pillars, marble and inscriptions on the walls. Only a select few are allowed access inside, but you can find artistic depictions of what it looks like online and possibly even real photos, but I'm not actually sure if the Saudi government has ever released official ones.

In pre-Islamic Arabia it contained pagan and other idols, but Muhammad famously ordered them to be destroyed, as idol worship or associating partners with Allah (known as "shirk") is one of the most serious sins in Islam.

Embedded into the outer wall is the famous Black Stone, believed by some to be a meteorite. It is believed by Muslims to have been laid by Abraham (Ibrahim in Islam).

Yea its called the Moringstar.. Why do they worship it ? You shall have no other gods before Me.

It's not called the Morning Star. It's called the Black Stone. The term "Morning Star" refers to the 86th surah ("chapter") of the Qur'an, called Al-Tariq, and sometimes translated as "Morning Star".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/At-Tariq

And Muslims don't worship the stone. That's *utterly and absolutely forbidden* in Islam, as I mentioned above. Worshipping *anything* other than God is one of the gravest sins in the religion. It's one of the core tenets. This is why saying Jesus is the Son of God, or praying to Christian saints or icons or the Virgin Mary, or believing in multiple deities (gods/goddesses), such as in Hindu, pagan and other belief systems, are expressly forbidden and considered blasphemous by Muslims.

Islam is extremely clear on the concept of monotheism (known as "Tawhid" in Islam). There is only one God (Allah). *Period*. And Muhammad is His Messenger. That sentence is actually what forms the Shahadah (confession of faith) in Arabic which Muslims recite daily, or when people convert to Islam. "There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah."

But the Prophet Muhammad was himself a man and worshipping or idolizing him would similarly be considered blasphemous (idolatry). It is even forbidden to depict the face of Muhammad as this could lead to people treating him like a god – the height of blasphemy. One reason those Danish cartoons caused so much controversy. Not just because they mocked Muhammad, but merely showing his face at all is strictly forbidden. The same of course goes for God (Allah). Allah can never be depicted in visual form.

Muslims merely revere the stone as sacred because they believe it was sent from heaven to the Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), and kissing it is one of the main practices when performing the Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca.

They also do not worship Satan. Firstly, because that would be "shirk" (worshipping other gods or associating partners with God), which is one of the most serious sins you can commit. Secondly, because Satan (Shaytan or Iblis in Islam) is considered a devil and the enemy of mankind. He is a "jinni" or spirit. Where English gets the word "genie". There are good jinn and bad jinn.

Muslims often recite a common verse of protection to ward off evil: "I seek refuge in God from the accursed Shaytan."

I'm not sure where you have got this information but I'm afraid it is simply not correct and any practising Muslim you speak to should be able to confirm that for you.
