They were defense tools to ward off harm from the hands of antifa and blm types of groups in case they arrived in counter protest and attacked the PEACEFUL demonstrators.
Once the federal agents provocateurs incited the riot then the random instances of mutual escalation took place resulting in injury and deployment of the chemical defense tools.
Nobody set anything on fire, destroyed any vehicles, no guns were presented by the demonstrators.
