Plenty of politicians are self-proclaimed socialists. Socialism/marxism/communism are all about state control. They differ only in their level of acceptable violence.

Democratic socialists are about as far from true Marxism as you can get while still being left of center. Even then it is only a position held by a handful of politicians who are mainly seeking reform, instead of a radical shift of the system.

I also fail to see how you assume the party that wants to limit reproductive rights for women and civil rights in general for queer people is less in favor of state control.

FBI was exposed for hindering free speech on Twitter and other social media platforms. The level of control during the COVID lockdown had more to do with exercising power than anything practical. Forcing sexual and political orientation on children in schools. (friends tell me horror stories and why they home-school or private school their children.)
