Did your parents tell you about 90s dial-up Internet?
The fastest 90s Internet was a whooping... 56 kbps, or 7 KB per second. You would not finish a 10 GB file on the same week.
And that's not counting sudden disconnections, which could happen any time, or a call in the middle of downloading. Yes, the Internet was a part of your average old telephone, so if someone else had to use the phone, you had cancel the entire downloading process, so that they could answer the call, and
you had to restart the download from scratch.
Not to mention that dial-up made this annoying beeping sound. Imagine waiting for a file to download
very slowly, and during all of this time, you heard nothing but beeping. That's what dial-up Internet was.
