depends on the area... Koreans eat Dog... as we learned during the Olympics, there are farms dedicated to raising certain breeds specifically for that... IIRC one athlete 'saved' one such canine, and brought it home after the games, and the poor pooch recently passed away...
the Running joke... not sure if accurate, racist stereotype, or indictment of 'mystery meat' is that Chinese Food uses Cat for their 'chicken' dishes
- I forget if it's here, or another site, you'll occasionally see the image of a Chinese Restaurant's ad-board (lighted yellow panel with black letters) with the message
"Stop asking about your cat, we no see it." ... "Try our Kung Pao Chicken, It's Purrfect"
it's been 25 years or so, but there was an incident in our nearest 'Big City' where the top Chinese Buffet was caught with the remains of a bunch of stray cats stored in the Freezer...
- as it was a family business, it was not clear if the Family was using them for their personal use, or if they had used them for the business, but as I recall they were forced out and new owners eventually took over
