an animated gif file is a stack of images (frames) in a single gif file that works like a flick-book with each image having its own display/time value (i.e. the image displays for 1000 milisecs, or whatever, and then the next displays and so on.
If you just wanted to create and share gif's (outwith imgflip) and used ezgif, you can control the time value for each individual frame in the gif....so you could make a gif with, say, 3 images e.g. the first displays for 1500 ms, the second for 3000 ms and the third for 500 ms and the whole gif would last 5 seconds
in imgflip, all images are given the same time value, so if you upload 3 images and set the time value for 500ms, all three images will display for 500ms each.
if you look at this one i did
https://i.imgflip.com/1fye0c.gif
to get the "flash" effect of the "smoke" image, i had to upload 5 or 6 copies of the main image before the smoke image, and another 5 or 6 copies of the main image after the "smoke" image so that the smoke image only appears to flash in. If i'd done this in ezgif i could've uploaded 3 images, 1st displays for 1000ms, 2nd (smoke image) appears for 50ms and the 3rd for 1000ms...then i get the "flash" effect
