While that may seem true, Nintendo and Sony both have an online game play system! With the bonus of it being free! (Not sure if Sony is anymore at this moment)

It may not be free, but Xbox Live lets you keep a single username across all games, and they run the show from their end. The other systems you're left to the developers whims on how they want to implement.

I have switched from Halo to COD though, but Mass Effect is now my favorite game, just waiting for the new one to release.
