But why does ANYBODY have to die? Why couldn't God just say "I forgive you" and be done with it? Being killed isn't the same as paying a fine.

Secular societies are proof that you don't need belief in a deity to do good, while religious societies are proof that you can have a noble ideal and STILL do evil. Also, every other First-World country is FAR less religious than the United States, and they have far fewer, if any, mass killings at all, and the ones they do have are usually committed by people who believe in God and pray all the time.

Calling somebody out on their bullshit isn't the same as hating them. I don't believe in God, and I don't hate God. God is a fictional character, people say bad things about fictional characters all of the time.
