Cases vs deaths is death rate. Not survival rate. Survival rate is the likelihood of NOT dying from something. It counts the entire population (affected/infected or not) vs deaths from ______. 330,000,000 is the US population. COVID deaths are 800,000+. 99.99% “survival rate” would mean about 30,000 people would have died from COVID. That’s simply wrong.
Death rate is the number of people that die from something. In this case the number of people infected (aka “cases”) vs number of people that die from COVID. That’s about 1.5%- 2% at this point. That’s the death rate. Which mean 98-98.5% of the people that GET Covid-19 will live. Which is great. Except 1.5-2% is not a small number.
