Downplaying Orwell's anti-communism is what reactionaries want, mate. As far as I know, he wasn't even well read in Marxism so obviously he would associate right wing totalitarianism with left wing authoritarianism.
We (in the global west) live under right wing authoritarianism it's just called neo-libertarian democracy. It's just capitalism under the rule of the bourgeoise, the capitalist class.
