IS MEDITATION OKAY? [2 of 4] The Hindu technique of mediation is something Jesus warned us about. He told us not to pray like the pagans, who babble on and on. The Greek root is almost a direct translation from "barbar," referring to the barbarians who lived in foreign lands. The Greeks called them barbarians because when the Greeks heard them speak, it just sounded like, "brah, brah, brah, brah, brah, brah, brah…” So, Jesus is telling us not to be like the pagans, who sound like barbarians when they pray to their idols. And meditation’s mantras (chanting words or phrases) are just repetitious babbling. Jesus said not to do it, because it’s not the same as biblical prayer. When we Christians pray, obviously it is not about the Hindu practice of focusing our mind on repetition of meaningless words or phrases. HOW DOES HINDUISM COMPARE TO CHRISTIANITY? [4 of 4] Even with the many obvious, core differences between Christianity and Hinduism’s works-based system, we often hear un-researched and false statements like, “All faiths and religions teach mostly the same stuff." But that’s a lie! Christianity is absolutely unique and is the only way to heaven. In John 4:16, Jesus said, “No one comes to the Father except through Me.” But still to this day, in his depravity, Satan has invented countless false paths that just confuse people away from Jesus. And the devil does so out of pure evil, wanting all he can dupe to join him in the Lake of Fire. Satan knows he's lost; he was a doomed loser when Christ beat him on the cross. But the devil teams up with humans who seek power and money. Together they deceive people all the way to eternity in hell. The alternative is to accept the free gift of salvation offered to us through Jesus' work on the cross. WHAT ARE THE PARALLELS BETWEEN HINDUISM AND CHARISMATICS IN THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH? Hinduism has a core practice they call “Upanishads,” which involves “mystical interpretations.” But a world where everyone supplies their own unique interpretations allows anyone to claim anything; like, "Well, I think that message means we must focus energy around the thing-a-ma-deal of humanity’s thing-a-ma-jig, as it relates to post-existential thought.” Though that made no sense, as a card-carrying member of the higher priestly class, this speaker recites his or her lofty oratory while wearing a fancy robe, acting deeply ethereal, and looking down on the audience of worshipers who are lucky to hear from this enlightened individual who can supply hidden meanings to the “lowly dumb dumbs.” That's the whole system of religiosity that gets convoluted to the point where, supposedly, only certain people can let us know what our beliefs and practices need to be. Unfortunately, we have some Church leaders today who do the same thing. As detailed extensively in our "Charismatic Chaos" study, a sect of Christianity called the hyper-charismatics tell us that we don't have the ability to read the Bible for ourselves; instead, we must attend certain schools across America to learn how to be true prophets of God. That way we can use spiritual techniques to have a "spiritual encounter” with “God.” But this is actually the same a Hindu teaching that puts people into an altered state of consciousness, so they can get in contact with spirits—that are not God. Still, hyper-charismatics tell us it’s the way to learn a the “deeper meaning” behind the Bible. Unfortunately, that is rampant all over the Church today, but it's just a trick to dupe people into getting away from the biblical truth God already supplied in the Bible. HAVE YOU OR SOMEONE YOU LOVE BEEN DUPED BY HEALTH AND WEALTH PREACHING? One such organization, the Church of God, claims Christ's death on the cross—for God's glory and our sins—provides complete physical healing for everyone. That is also part of the Charismatic movement that became the Word of Faith preachers. The latter claims that those with enough faith will have perfect health and become wealthy. Unfortunately though, the people getting rich are the preachers requesting your donations to prove your level of faith; the greater the check you send them, the more faith you have. Yet, those requesting your money don’t even have the perfect health they promise donors. While preaching perfect health and wealth is just lying to grab people's cash, it is true that God can heal. I’ve personally seen and even experienced it, but that doesn't mean God always heals us. We see that in the Bible with the Apostle Paul who experienced serious illness. Did he not have enough faith? Maybe he wasn't "sowing enough seeds" into a health and wealth preacher's ministry. Is that why Paul was not in perfect health? And Philippians 2 talks about Epaphroditus, Paul's co-worker for Christ who nearly "worked himself to death." He obviously did not lack the faith to be healed. And Scripture says Paul's spiritual-son Timothy was often sick. Did Paul recommend either of those two have more faith to become as healthy as they'd like? In fact, with Timothy’s medical problem, Paul told him to take certain liquids that might help better than just water. IF JESUS IS THE ONLY WAY, WHAT ABOUT THE DESERT ISLAND GUY WHO HAS NEVER HEARD OF HIM? [2 of 2] Even if our desert-island recluse was blind and deaf, (so he could not see or hear God’s creation), Romans 2 talks about the second C (of the three C’s that prove God’s existence): the light of “Conscience.” People inherently know it's wrong to murder. Where did that come from? If evolution were true, there would be no right and wrong, right? Of course, over time people like Hitler can have their conscience become seared; early on though, everyone knows it is inherently wrong to kill and steal. Where did that come from? Since many have not seen God’s Ten Commandments, where did they get those same morals? That's the moral argument of existence, which logically tells us that universal, moral laws must come from a universal, moral-law giver—God. There has to be a God! So, Creation and Conscience (2 C’s) testify that there is a God, and those two truths pull the rug from under skeptics; our island guy has no excuse. The third "C" is “Christ,” and this one is for you! We addressed the hypothetical straw-man argument of the desert-island guy, mountaintop person, or the one lost in isle 37 at Wal-Mart, but none of that matters if you are the one reading this. We are all sinners, Christ died to save us from hell, and all we must do is accept His free gift of salvation that He supplied for us by dying on the cross for our sins.
