Classic rock is where it's at . . . with a few exceptions

can't really disagree with that. I mean, Hotline Bling? Really? I mean, Work by Rihanna sounds like it was smashed together by a person who can't enunciate their words to actually mean something. That might have not made sense, but you probably get the point.
I hate almost all of the music today, the only exceptions being Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance (yes I am aware they aren't around anymore but leAvE mE AlOnE *tears*) and that's about it. But I do like the punk and pop punk and alternative sound of the 2000's, but that has obviously died down, almost died off sadly.
Sorry I am just really passionate about my views on music today.

2014-present has been full of R&B hits lately

But back in the 60's and 70's you had Boston and Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd and Queen and The Beatles and Kansas and America and Styx and REO Speedwagon and Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top and Genesis and Van Halen and Stevie Wonder and Billy Joel and Elton John and Aerosmith and the Eagles and Earth, Wind & Fire and Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Tower of Power. In the 80's you had U2 and Def Leppard and Guns N' Roses and Whitesnake and Asia and Toto and Michael Jackson and most of the artists mentioned above . . .
Compared to these, today's music simply pales in comparison

the dubstep spectrum has been expanding in the underground lately.
ever took the time to listen to some melodic or chillstep? this stuff is more into putting you into the mood than making you wanna jump up and down to the spacebar.

Today's music is just computers. Back then, you had lead vocals, backing vocals, lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass guitar, drums/percussion, keyboard, piano, synthesizers, clavinet, and organ at most. Sometimes you get unorthodox instruments like clarinets, vibrophones, sitars, violins, trumpets, and saxophones (unless you're playing funk). With older music, you get all-natural, human-played instrumentation and vocals. With today's pop and dubstep/electronica, it's all autotune and computers. On another note, most artists wrote their own music. Today, you push a button on a machine and a melody comes out. It's just not as good
