Gimp is pretty powerful, but there is a learning curve, just block out some time when you're ready to play with it.

Anything else you know for simpleton like me?

You got my E right? That outlined the only trick I use. I don't have Gimp on this computer, have used it and photoshop on my old one which my daughter has now. What I will tell you though is, learning to use the clone tool and transparencies will help you the most on here.

Got 1 E and replied,... still on road. Will be experimenting soon,... then look out! ;)
