My inner troll (with whom I constantly battle to maintain my civility) wanted to make a comment about how you could always be a janitor and still "work at NASA"
However, the good guy in me won, so I will wish you the best, and who knows, when the worlds goes to $#!& and we all need to gtfo, maybe you'll be the one who flies me out...

I've had a cousin that's been a NASA contractor since the 70s in programming. Its been a really good life for him. Best of luck!

What did he have to do to get into NASA, I am in 9th grade and I want to go straight for it, great pay compared to what my dad gets or most jobs now a days (I sent it like 120,000 a year?) anyways, don't I need my PhD? Thanks man, hope you and your cousin are doing great

He was in on the early day of programming. This was early 70s so there were nowhere near as many with those skills then. I remember going to see him at college (va tech) and he took us to see the computer lab, the (yes 1) computer was about the size of about 12 parking spaces. You now have 1000 times the power sitting on your desk at home. I don't know much about what they will be looking for when you are ready to apply, but what I will tell you is grades need to be at the top of your priority list. They want the best of the best. Any experience you can pick up in related areas for what you want to do, you should go for, Not sure is space camp still exists but if that's something that could be in the family budget it would be a great place to discover what you will need to know to be ready. The internet offers so much more opportunity for those who want it. There are volunteer crowd-source space projects you can participate in too!

Hey thanks man, means a lot, I am in a private school and I have decent grades, (high A's) how much does your cousin make, I always loved to learn about space and everything about it (how the universe was made, is there anymore planets) and I wanted to see if it gets good pay, my father makes about 50 thousand per year being a manager for Valaro (the gas company) and I read that if someone with expirence works for a place like NASA they might make up too 150 thousand or more, so I fully decided to head for NASA, sir I am going to take your a lot older than me so I will wish you the best of luck and thank you so much, means a lot to me

Money can't be the only deciding factor, but it sounds like you have the passion to go with it. I don't know what he makes, but I can tell you he is always on a great vacation somewhere or another. I will say one thing, and not to be hurtful, but hopefully to help. I noticed when going through your memes, you spend a lot of energy worrying about what others do, this tendency can only impede YOUR progress. Sure a lot of times things seem unfair but take negatives in life wherever they are and use them to your advantage or move on because it is wasted effort better spent elsewhere. Are you familiar with the term diminishing returns? It has to do with the more effort you put in each time the less you get back. People who get to the top in anything recognize diminishing returns quickly and know decide if they can do anything to change the situation or move on and place their efforts elsewhere. If I were to give a piece of the success puzzle to anyone, it would be to master recognizing diminishing returns.

Sir I just want to tell you money is not just my deciding factor, I mean I would love a high paying job but I love to learn about space and everything outside earth basically, thank you for the advice about me just doing my own thing and not worrying about what others will think and do, thank you sir, you have helped me so much, I hope everything you need and want happens, thank you so much sir

By money also I mean I want a high paying job because I want to have many kids when I grow up, give each a very good education and I want to see each and every one of them, my father could not get us into a private school until, this year, we went to a private school because my old public high school had a D rating and at this new school they have a high A rating, but I know it's not all for the money, but thank you sir for your great advice

Yea, if I make lots of money, that either means I got lucky and won the lottery (just kidding) or I am successful in life, oh sir I got a question, what job do you work for?
1 up, 9y
You don't have to call me sir, although I appreciate the respect:) I'm in sales, always have been. It always seemed to me one of the few professions you could do outside of athletics that you could see an instant impact based on effort.

By the way, I realized I had confused your memes with someone elses! I'm a looked through several users yesterday. Yours did NOT seem to be worrying about others, but still the lesson holds as it is one that when not learned has held so many people back. :)

I hope you see this message because apperiently we have reached the max of comments so I have to comment on my own comment, anyways my father in suprise went on a trip with my family to the science museum of natural history and they had a NASA special today, these 3 men from NASA came to talk about the trip to Mars and then they said in one of jupitors moons, Europa, there could be life (from my internet knowledge I already knew this) but there descriptions made me sorta angry I want to say, NASA said in 2036 there would be a large asteroid that would hit earth, 22 years early that same asteroid made the closest flyby to earth, from there miss calculations I wanted to say something to them but I did not want to seem like a huge knowld-all so I kept my mouth closed but yea, sorry if I am starting to annoy you now sir
