You are not likely to find a "friendly" hamster. They have horrible personalities. Rats are much nicer, but you'll wanna get two because rats are social animals (but make sure they are both boys or both girls to avoid accidental breeding). Mice also have similar personalities to rats, but are more skittish so you'd need to handle them more carefully. Any pet store should carry all three. If cost is a main driver of your choice, move are often the cheapest option because they are sold primarily as snake food. It also sounds like whatever rodent you choose, you'll want to pick up a book on proper care.
