What if I told you that more than 70% of Americans (not me) consider themselves Christians. In the American Senate it takes only a 51% percent majority to pass legislation and in the House it takes only a 2/3rds majorly to pass legislation. That's a big FU to the minority. Nobody would care if anyone was offended except they either want to sell you something or want you to vote for them.

If it IS Christmas, or if "Merry(happy) Christmas" is said to me, I say Happy Christmas. Otherwise, people just get a "happy yule" or "happy holidays" from me. Something like 60% of Denmark is Christian, but nobody here seems to care what you say as a seasonal greeting one way or the other. I just don't understand how in american culture, the word "holiday" is like burning a church. Christmas is one of those holidays, after all.

That would be nice. What got things screwed up over here was a few people complaining that "Merry Christmas" offended them and the Libs jumped on board with it and of course big companies don't want to alienate a potential customer etc. etc.

Happy Christmas or happy whatever you celebrate to you.

You are aware that many Christians also claim to be offended by "Happy Holidays"? Which actually makes far less sense to be offended by, as it is inclusive of Christmas and all other seasonal holidays. "Merry Christmas" excludes all but Christians. Generally, excluding all others is what it takes to satisfy American Christians.

Ok. I'm glad you pointed out the happy "whatever you celebrate" part. However, merry Christmas doesn't exactly offend non Christians, but if everybody suddenly told you happy Hanukkah at this point of the year, wouldn't it be a bit annoying that people assume you celebrate it? Its the same thing with merry Christmas. So with that I gladly say happy holidays :)

No. (Or maybe in some ways since Im jewish by ethnicity XD ) Bottom line is, Christmas is a christian holiday. Non christians dont get offended by it and appreciate that its a nice geture but even if we celebrate it for fun, its actual values and beleifs is not a part of us. Not everybody in America is christian. Deal with it. Christians, instead of whining that they are being attacked (which ironically is almost impossible with so many out there) should actually do what the bible says and treat neighbors how you want to be treated. How about I say to all HAPPY F**K CHRISTIANS day. Howd they like that? Or how about happy hail satan day? Want me to start telling everybody that assuming they think that way?

I'm agnostic. What bothers me is the Christians beliefs that they are the only way and all knowing. It sickens me. Oh I grew up in a very religious house with my uncles grandfather and great grandfather being Methodist ministers.

bothers me too. I grew up semi religious and then SUPER religious wannabe jewish parents ruined H.S. for me as well as some of college. You can tell that the way they beleive in the jewish religion has made bad influence to make them snobbier aand desperate. As much as I respect my dad and my step mom, i wish theyd just cut the bull shit and give up the concept of the invisable man in the sky. Humanist atheist forever!

I'm a christian and to be honest I just shrugged the whole issue off since it didn't bother me, and doesn't mean all Christians are the same especially much like in every religion there are people who are actually there to serve our lord and savior and then there are others who are just there for the title. Its amazing how the actions of 1-2 individuals can make people assume the other 100 are the same, much like Islam for which now everyone believes that Islam is a terror religion. When all religions teach peace, love, and equality :)

No. Not all christians are like that. But this meme being so popular means that lots of people on imgflip do. Religious beleifs all come down to the indivisual person. These days, it seems religions are becoming less about peace, love, and equality like they should be and are becoming more about being defencive, self worship, greed, and using god as an excuse for discrimination. Thats my opinion, but plenty out there agree and thats why atheism is on the rise :)

The greatest sin of man was that of putting yourself above your brother and above god. Atheism is on a rise mostly because this new generation, or this new more liberal generation begins to believetheir eyes over their feelings and their faith theough science, and because they do not agree with "homophobic" beliefs for example, I will admit I was against giving homosexuals the right to marry and because of that alot of my friends shunned me, although I kept and continue to talk and make friends with homosexuals since the word of god says "love the sinner but abolish the sin" which is something a lot of believers should learn

I do agree that atheism has its own problems if there are no morals that are adopted with it. Thats why I also claim to be a humanist which is morally safer than being a plain atheist. I admit that the morals of humanism are similar to the morals of torah (old testament) as well as the new testament. Its just more liberal where it is needed and there is way less shaming and is no god involved.

The point of saying Happy Holidays isn't to prevent people that aren't Christians offended, we all know that Christians seem to be the only ones offended over anything these days. It's simply considered polite, and you are acknowledging that religions other than Christianity exist.

Wishing everyone "Merry Christmas" is like like randomly wishing people "happy birthday"

I mean, around now the odds are better for "Merry Christmas" but you still look like an idiot if you're wrong.

No, it's more like calling everyone in Southern Vietnam Mr./Ms. Nguyen. It is overpoweringly the most common surname.

That's fine too but to just assume they are is just like ...elitist or something. Like assuming all indians are names Patel. What if all non white people just decided "smith" is good enough and they will refer to all white people as mr. Or mrs. Smith? So dumb.
