US Americans tend to forget that even Canadians, Mexicans, Brazilians, all of um... Are Americans. They are not US citizens, but technically its like Europe. Germans, French, Spanish, British, Norwegian.. etc are all European but then have their country moniker as well. US Americans are one of the few that just use their continental name for their country name as well.

I know it was a joke. But as a European turned American I tend to find this subject funny when people argue or don't understand it.

But english and american are slightly different.

They are very different. But they are both English. Just UK English and US English.
