Dogs are descendants of wolves, and they're obviously very closely related--this isn't like velociraptors becoming songbirds or anything.
I'll get back to you once I see a wolf eating a Caesar salad.
Dogs CAN consume veggies; it's not impossible for them, obviously. However, it's not exactly their natural diet. Their teeth and digestive tract show that they are meant to be carnivores. But again, they can have a vegetable or two.
So we probably should not feed them a diet of meat flavored cereal. Every. Single. Day. lol That and some people do the canned meaty pablum.
I am far from an animal activist but how dogs and cats are treated in America just gets to me. Dogs have noses that can pick up every individual ingredient in the foods that we cook at every meal and we sit a bowl of dry cereal in front of them and yell at them if they even THINK about wanting what is on our plate ... "Are you begging?!" lol Hell yeah I'm begging because you are too much of a selfish asshole to let it occur to you that I might want a plate of my own." And yet they love us SO unconditionally. :-) So much that my setter would eat broccoli, okra (oh the okra she saved me from lol), cauliflower ....
Dogs aren't carnivores. They've evolved alongside man for 10,000 years and are capable of digesting carbs 28 times better than wolves. Dogs are not wolves. The longest living dog with Guinness World Records was 27 and vegan from birth.
Cats are carnivores and have retained their wild nature and physiology more so. That doesn't mean that an adequate plant diet fortified with taurine and other necessary vitamins and minerals can't sustain a cat long term. All should be done under guidance of a vet.
I just find it funny how hypocritical meat eaters try to find miniscule criticisms with people trying to live a compassionate life. I guess bc that's all you have.
*Its. When using it's, it's using a contraction of "it" and "is". When using "its", it's shows ownership. Thought I'd tell you so nobody else make fun of you for it.
